How this list was compiled: Revised Code of Washington chapters 48.02, 48.03, 48.04, 48.17 and 48.30A and sections 48.30.015 and 48.30.230, and Washington Administrative Code chapters 284-17 and 284-30, on the Washington State Legislature's own site (https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/ and https://app.leg.wa.gov/WAC/), read on October 15, 2026. Each question names its section and links to it. The topics follow the Licensing and Regulation part (20 items) of the content outline "Washington Insurance Adjuster" (100 items, 135 minutes), which prints the RCW and WAC references beside each topic (the outline: https://proctor2.psionline.com/media/programs/WAINS/adj.pdf). The Office of the Insurance Commissioner gives the passing score and links the candidate information bulletin at https://www.insurance.wa.gov/producers-adjusters/education/first-time-license/how-schedule-insurance-license-exam. Licence: Own work. Every question, wrong choice and explanation was written for this site from the text of the law. Nothing comes from a testing vendor, a prep course or an exam question pool.

What the exam covers
Of the 100 items on the Washington Insurance Adjuster outline, Licensing and Regulation carries 20 and federal laws 5; the other 75 are insurance concepts, policy forms and the adjustment process.
What this page asks
The 20: the commissioner's powers and hearings, adjuster licensing (RCW 48.17.380 to 48.17.430, WAC 284-17-123), discipline and fines, unfair claim practices (chapter 284-30 WAC) and fraud. Several claim rules change on October 18, 2026; a question gives that date where only the new text says it.
Before the exam
The Office of the Insurance Commissioner asks for claims experience, a qualifying designation or a trainee program of six to nine months first. A year as an insurer's full-time salaried claims employee can exempt an applicant from the exam (RCW 48.17.110).
A public adjuster files a $5,000 surety bond before the license is issued (RCW 48.17.430).
A fine is at most $1,000 for each offense, and a suspension at most twelve months (RCW 48.17.560, 48.17.550).
A first party claimant gives 20 days' written notice to the insurer and the commissioner before suing under RCW 48.30.015.
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Washington adjuster exam?
100, in 135 minutes, by the Washington Insurance Adjuster content outline and the candidate information bulletin revised August 3, 2026. The bulletin adds that one to ten unscored experimental items may be given.
What score passes the Washington adjuster exam?
70 percent. The Office of the Insurance Commissioner says you must score at least 70% to pass the state insurance license exam, and the bulletin says your score shows on screen when you finish.
Is this Washington adjuster license practice test free?
Yes. All 104 questions are open, and your answers stay in your browser. The questions come from the statutes and rules; none comes from the state exam, and the Office of the Insurance Commissioner did not write or review them.
Who needs an adjuster license in Washington?
Under RCW 48.17.060, nobody may act as an adjuster without a license. The definition in RCW 48.17.010 leaves out an insurer's salaried employee, except on crop claims, an attorney adjusting losses incidental to practice, and an appraiser or umpire.
What is the difference between an independent and a public adjuster in Washington?
An independent adjuster represents the insurer; a public adjuster is employed by and represents solely the insured named in the policy (RCW 48.17.010). Each type needs its own license, and the full fee is paid for each (RCW 48.17.390).
