How it works

Oregon's Class C knowledge test has 35 multiple-choice questions, and 28 correct pass. This unofficial Oregon permit practice test draws 290 questions from chapters 801 to 816 of the Oregon Revised Statutes, read 19 September 2026, and adds 48 on road signs. Most links open a whole chapter on the Legislature's site. Search it for the ORS number.

One exam, given by the Oregon DMV

Oregon does have a DMV, part of the Department of Transportation. Any DMV practice test Oregon learners use prepares for one exam, the Class C knowledge test. The agency offers it online through DMV2U or on a touch-screen in an office. Online, the cap is two tests in 24 hours and four in all, and anyone under 18 needs a proctor aged 21 or older.

What ORS 807.070 lets the test ask

ORS 807.070 limits the knowledge test to subjects in the department's own publications for applicants, and requires at least two questions on driving safely around motorcyclists. Read the Oregon Driver Manual first. Then use this page for Oregon permit test practice on figures the statutes fix, such as signaling for 100 feet before a turn (ORS 811.335). These chapters set no point values for tickets, so the Oregon permit test questions here never mention points.

  • ORS 811.375: signal a lane change for the last 100 feet.
  • ORS 811.507 treats a hands-free accessory as a defense only for drivers 18 or older.
  • Pair the alcohol figures: 0.08 percent under ORS 813.010, and any amount for a driver under 21 under the implied consent law, ORS 813.300.

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the Oregon permit test, and how many can you miss?

Thirty-five multiple-choice questions, and you can miss 7: 28 correct pass, by the testing section of the Oregon DMV's online manual, read 19 September 2026. ORS 807.370 sets the knowledge test fee at $7 and the instruction permit fee at $30.

Is this the DMV permit test Oregon gives?

No. This page does not hold the DMV's live questions. Every question was written from a section of the Oregon Revised Statutes, named under the explanation. The DMV keeps its own practice test on oregon.gov.

What can a 15-year-old do with an Oregon instruction permit?

Drive with a licensed driver aged 21 or older seated beside them. ORS 807.280 opens the Class C permit at 15 and keeps it valid for 24 months. Before a provisional license, ORS 807.065 asks for six months with the permit and 50 supervised hours plus a traffic safety course, or 100 hours without one.
