The Division of Motor Vehicles instruction permit page, https://dmv.alaska.gov/credential-services/instruction-permit/, read in the Internet Archive copy of 2026-03-08, lists the permit requirements (written knowledge test, vision test, form D1, parental consent, $15 fee) and states no question count or pass mark, so none is given on the page. The permit age, permit fee, supervision rule, retest rule and test-aid rule on the page come from AS 28.15.051, AS 28.15.271 and 2 AAC 90.420, not from the agency site. Licence: Own work. How it works
Two seconds is the shortest following gap 13 AAC 02.090 allows, windshield frost is a violation, and studded tires leave paved roads on dates set by latitude. This unofficial Alaska permit practice test asks 238 questions on rules like those, plus 48 on federal road signs. Text read 18 September 2026.

One knowledge test, one rulebook
Alaska does have a DMV, the Division of Motor Vehicles, and it gives one written knowledge test. Under 2 AAC 90.420, fail and you may retake it the following day, then once per day. A phone, notes or the manual in the room brings a seven-day bar.
Why most answers cite 13 AAC, not a statute
Alaska keeps its rules of the road in regulation. Chapter 02 of 13 AAC holds the unposted limits: 15 mph in an alley, 20 in a business district, 25 in a residential district and 55 elsewhere. Chapter 04 covers equipment: dim within 500 feet of oncoming traffic, 70 percent light through front side tint, 2/32 inch of tread. Title 28 adds permits, points, insurance and alcohol.
A permit starts at 14 under AS 28.15.051, lasts up to two years and renews once. The driver beside you must be 21 or older with a year licensed.
Learn the speeding ladder in 2 AAC 90.310: 2 points for 3 to 9 mph over, 4 for 10 to 19, 6 for 20 or more. AS 28.15.221 suspends at 12 points in 12 months.

Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Alaska permit test?
The Division of Motor Vehicles prints no number. Its instruction permit page of 8 March 2026 lists a written knowledge test, a vision test, a parent's consent under 18 and a $15 fee, with no question count or pass mark. Exam mode here asks 25, this site's length, and shows the number right, a percent and topic scores, with no pass line.
Is this permit practice test Alaska's official one?
No. This unofficial site has never seen the Division of Motor Vehicles questions. The bank was written from 13 AAC 02, 13 AAC 04, 2 AAC 90 and Title 28 as the Alaska Legislature publishes them.
What limits come with an Alaska provisional license?
AS 28.15.057 bars driving between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. unless a parent, guardian or licensed person 21 or older rides along, or the trip is for work. Passengers must be a parent, guardian, sibling or someone 21 or older, unless one passenger is such an adult.
