How it works

The General Laws and the Registry's regulations are the whole source for this unofficial Massachusetts motorcycle permit practice test: 84 questions, each with its section. They cover the Class M permit's ban on passengers and riding after sunset, headgear for every rider, and the two-abreast rule. Riding technique stays in the Registry's Motorcycle Manual. Laws read September 2026.

What the General Laws ask of a Massachusetts rider

Chapter 90, section 7 puts headgear on every operator and passenger, and 540 CMR 22.08 ties it to federal standard 218. Chapter 89, section 4A allows two motorcycles abreast, single file when passing, and no passing a car inside its lane. Section 7U caps noise at 82 decibels up to 45 mph and 86 above.

What Massachusetts publishes about the Class M permit exam

The Registry of Motor Vehicles prints the format on its Class M learner's permit page: 25 questions, 25 minutes, 18 correct to pass, with a $30 application fee. Those figures are from the Internet Archive's capture of 18 April 2026. Questions you miss wait under Missed. Clear my progress wipes them and your scores.

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the motorcycle permit test in Massachusetts, and how many can you miss?

Twenty-five, and you can miss 7. The Registry's Class M learner's permit page, in the Internet Archive's capture of 18 April 2026, gives 25 questions, 25 minutes and 18 correct to pass. Exam mode here copies all three.

What are the limits on a Massachusetts motorcycle permit?

Section 8B sets the minimum age at 16, bars any passenger and bars riding after sunset or before sunrise. The permit lasts two years. An expired one is renewed only if the holder took a road test while it was valid. Under 18, section 8 requires an approved basic rider course before the license.

Does the Registry supply the questions in this MA motorcycle permit practice test?

It does not. The site is privately run, is not affiliated with the Massachusetts RMV, and wrote every sample question from the General Laws or the Code of Massachusetts Regulations. The Registry tells applicants to study its Motorcycle Manual, which this bank does not use.
