How this list was compiled: Exam facts: the Kansas Board of Barbering's Exams page (https://kbob.kansas.gov/license-exam/). Questions: the Kansas barber statutes, K.S.A. 65-1808 to 65-1835 and 74-1805a to 74-1807, on the Revisor of Statutes' site (https://www.ksrevisor.gov/); the Board's regulations, K.A.R. Agency 61, in the copy the Board posts (https://kbob.kansas.gov/regulations/); and the sanitary regulations for barbers, K.A.R. 28-25-1 to 28-25-15, linked from the same page. Each question names its section and links to it. Read 2026-10-16. Licence: Own work. Every question, wrong choice and explanation was written for this site from the statutes and regulations named. How it works
This unofficial Kansas barber practice test asks our own questions on the state's barber statutes and regulations, the subject of the Board's Kansas Rules and Regulations Examination. It is not affiliated with the Kansas Board of Barbering or NIC.

What the Kansas barber exam is
The Kansas Board of Barbering examines in three portions: a national written theory test, a practical on two models, and its own Kansas Rules and Regulations Examination, taken the same day as the practical.
What this page practices
The Board publishes no outline for its rules test, so this bank asks the texts it posts: K.S.A. 65-1808 to 65-1835, its Agency 61 regulations and the sanitary regulations for barbers, K.A.R. 28-25. Hair, skin and shaving theory is not asked.
Non-electrical tools are cleaned, then immersed in an EPA-registered disinfectant or in 70% isopropyl alcohol for at least ten minutes (K.A.R. 28-25-10).
Neck dusters, styptic pencils, lump alum, powder puffs, shaving mugs and lather brushes are all prohibited (K.A.R. 28-25-13).
Licenses renew every year by the first letter of the last name: A to C and M to O by March 31 (K.A.R. 61-4-2).
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Kansas barber written exam?
The Board's Exams page describes the national theory test as a 110-question, multiple-choice examination. It gives no question count for the Kansas Rules and Regulations Examination.
What score do you need to pass the Kansas barber exam?
The Board asks a minimum of 80 percent on each of the three portions, the figure K.S.A. 65-1815 sets. A candidate who fails one part is reexamined only on that part.
Are these the real Kansas barber exam questions?
No. Each was written for this page from the Kansas statutes and regulations, with the section under each answer. Nothing comes from the examination or from a textbook.
How many hours do you need for a barber license in Kansas?
K.S.A. 65-1810 asks for a barber school course of not less than 1,200 and not more than 1,500 hours. A Kansas cosmetologist or a military-certified barber needs at least 500 hours under K.A.R. 61-3-3.
How old do you have to be to get a barber license in Kansas?
K.S.A. 65-1812 asks that an applicant be at least 16, a high school graduate or the equivalent, and a graduate of an approved barber school who has passed the Board's examination.
