What the Kansas manicurist written theory exam covers

The Board's Candidate Information Bulletin (revised September 2025) weights six areas: Kansas laws, rules and regulations 25 percent; safety, sanitation and infection control 40; implements, tools and equipment 6; product knowledge and chemistry 6; anatomy and physiology 2; nail care and services 21.

How the questions are split

The four groups hold 16, 22, 4 and 10 questions, from K.S.A. 65-1901 to 65-1912, K.A.R. 28-24 and Agency 69, and three papers the Board posts: its nail safety guide, its pedicure chair presentation and its blood exposure procedures. Chemistry, anatomy and enhancement steps have no Kansas text and are not asked.

  • A sanding band is single-use; metal bits and mandrels are cleaned, disinfected and stored closed and labeled (K.A.R. 28-24-8, 28-24-11).
  • Pedicure equipment stays clean and disinfected even when it is out of service (K.A.R. 28-24-9).
  • Manicurist training is 350 clock hours, with 70 before a student works on the public (K.S.A. 65-1912; K.A.R. 69-4-9).
