How it works
This unofficial Louisiana nail technician practice test asks what the Louisiana Cosmetology Act and Board rules say about manicuring. It is not affiliated with the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology or a testing service; no question comes from an examination.

What Louisiana's manicurist examinations are
The Board's testing page lists three: a Manicurist National Exam, which is the NIC theory examination, a Manicurist State Exam and a Manicurist Practical Exam.
What this bank asks
Twelve questions on the scope of manicuring, the certificate and examinations, 17 on safety and sanitation, 13 on salons, managers and booth rental, and 10 on renewal, permits and discipline, from R.S. 37:563 to 37:600 and LAC 46:XXXI. Nail science belongs to the national examination; the national manicure theory test on this site practices it.
- Manicuring never includes blades or graters for callus or skin removal (R.S. 37:563).
- A manicuring salon may not keep a wax pot and wax on the premises (LAC 46:XXXI.709).
- A registered manicurist may manage a manicuring salon, and a registered manager is present during all hours of operation (R.S. 37:589).
Questions and answers
How many hours is nail tech school in Louisiana?
500 hours. LAC 46:XXXI.305 sets the manicuring curriculum at no less than 500 hours, and a student who completes it may take the written and practical examinations once the school and the Board give clearance. Louisiana calls the license manicurist.
What is on the Louisiana manicurist state exam?
The Board's testing page links the State Exam to its book of cosmetology laws and rules: the Louisiana Cosmetology Act and LAC Title 46, Part XXXI. It prints no question count, time limit or pass mark, so this page does not guess one.
Is there a practical exam for Louisiana manicurists?
Yes. The Board's practical testing sheet gives two phases: advanced nail techniques (a tip with acrylic overlay, a sculptured nail, a silk wrap repair) in 45 minutes, then a manicure in 30. R.S. 37:586 says examinations include practical demonstrations and written and oral tests.
