What the Ohio manicure theory exam covers

The Board's Testing Information Packet (9/2025 revision) lists five subject areas: Infection Control and Safety 35 percent, Anatomy and Physiology 20, Product Knowledge and Chemistry 10, Implements, Tools and Equipment 5, and Nail Care and Services 30. State regulations sit inside the first area.

Ohio rules to know cold

Bleach is mixed one part to nine parts cool water with ten minutes of contact (OAC 4713-1-01). Porous implements are discarded after one use (4713-15-03). Any trace of MMA in liquid monomer is prohibited (ORC 4713.14).

  • Acrylic and dip powder go into an individual container for each client, and unused powder is discarded (OAC 4713-15-09).
  • Massage stops at the elbow and at the knee: that is the edge of the practice of manicuring (ORC 4713.01).
  • A pedicure client gets single-use socks or sandals unless they bring their own (OAC 4713-15-10).

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the Ohio manicurist theory exam?

The Board's packet gives 100 multiple choice questions and 90 minutes. It prints no pass mark, so this page shows your score without a verdict. Exam mode here asks 60 questions in 54 minutes, the same pace.

Is this Ohio nail technician practice test free, and are the questions real?

It is free. The questions are our own, written from Chapter 4713 of the Ohio Revised Code, the Ohio Administrative Code and public pages such as SEER's and MedlinePlus, each named under its answer. None comes from the Board's examination.

Does this cover the Ohio manicuring practical exam?

No. Ohio's manicuring practical examination has its own testing information packet on the Board's exams page. This page practises the written theory examination only.
