How it works
Fifty-four unofficial practice questions for the Wyoming nail technician license, each written from the Board's rules or the Wyoming Cosmetology Act. Not affiliated with the Wyoming Board of Cosmetology, the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) or the examination administrator.

What NIC's nail theory outline weighs
The bulletin effective September 1, 2025 spreads the theory items over eight domains. Infection control and safety practices take 15 percent, nail service tools 13, manicure and pedicure services 18 and nail enhancement services 20.
Where the 54 questions come from
Sixteen are on nail files, nail tables, electric files and the pedicure spa standard. Twenty-four are on disinfection, single use items, blood exposure, chemicals and products. Fourteen are scope and license law. Nail anatomy, disorders, product chemistry and enhancement steps stand in no Wyoming text; the national manicure theory test on this site asks them.
- A nail file is single use unless it is made of metal, plastic or glass (Chapter 10, section 3).
- A pedicure spa's filters, screens, drains and jets come out after each client or service (Chapter 10, section 7).
- MMA monomer, styptic pencils and wooden-handled, natural bristle table dusters may not be present in a salon (Chapter 10, section 17).
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Wyoming nail technician exam?
The examiner's bulletin for the Board lists two computer-based examinations: Nail Technology theory, 110 questions with 10 unscored, and Written Practical Nail Technology, 55 questions. Each allows 90 minutes and has a passing score of 70.
What is on the Wyoming written practical exam for nail technicians?
Seven areas, by the bulletin: two on work area and client preparation with set up of supplies, basic water manicure and polish application, full-well nail tip application and blending, sculptured nail, removal of sculptured nail, and the blood exposure procedure (16 percent).
Does Wyoming have a state law exam for nail technicians?
The Board's exam page asks for the NIC theory and written-practical examinations and names no law test. NIC's outline has no state law part, so the scope and license law group on this page is extra practice.
How many hours is nail tech school in Wyoming?
No less than 400 hours of theory and practical instruction, over at least two months (Chapter 6, section 3). The Board's FAQ adds that no license is offered by apprenticeship: the hours come from a recognized school.
Are these the real Wyoming nail technician exam questions?
No. Each was written for this site from Chapters 1, 6, 7 and 10 of the Board's rules, the Wyoming Cosmetology Act or the Board's exam page, and links to its source. Nothing is taken from an NIC examination or its bulletin's sample questions.
