What the questions cover

The statute first: who needs a license, the Director and the two advisor appointees, the education, examination and certification paths, renewal. Then the rules: the written report and its five-day deadline, what an inspector need not inspect or determine, the acts that are unprofessional conduct, and the penalties in Title 3.

What is left out

How building systems work and fail, which the national examination asks. The system-by-system lists of Rule 3.2 are asked only in part: propane tanks, detectors, chimneys, wells and detached buildings.

  • Examination results count for one year from the date the examination is passed (Rule 2.3).
  • A personal, family or money interest in an inspection's outcome is disclosed orally and again in the written report (Rule 3.3).
  • When a license is not renewed, its privileges are suspended from the expiration date (26 V.S.A. § 1092).
