Two exams for a Vermont broker license

Broker applicants pass a national broker exam and the Vermont state exam. Since February 27, 2021 the Office of Professional Regulation has given the state exam inside its online license application, and it tells applicants to review its statutes and rules page first.

What the broker level adds

A broker can serve as principal broker or broker in charge, so the bank leans on what that person answers for: firm and branch registration, supervision of licensees, the trust account and seven years of records.

No outline is published

The Office publishes no outline for the state exam. The six topics here are our own grouping of that law.

  • Earnest money goes into the firm's trust account within five banking days (26 V.S.A. 2214).
  • A Vermont firm may not act as a dual agent; one with more than two licensees may elect designated agency (Rules 4.3, 4.4).
  • A brokerage service agreement expires within one year and cannot renew automatically (Rule 4.8).

Questions and answers

What is on the Vermont real estate broker exam?

Two exams. The national broker exam comes from the Commission's exam service and has been multiple choice since October 1, 2023. The Vermont state exam is part of the online application, and the Office of Professional Regulation points applicants to the statutes and Commission rules.

How do you become a real estate broker in Vermont?

26 V.S.A. 2292 asks for a 40-hour broker course, the required examinations, and two years as a licensed salesperson with at least eight separate and unrelated closed transactions. The Office also lists affiliation with a Vermont licensed office.

How many questions are on the Vermont broker exam?

The Office of Professional Regulation publishes no question count, time limit or pass mark for the state exam, so this page names none. For the national exam it refers applicants to the exam service, and this page does not guess those figures.

Are these the real Vermont broker exam questions?

No. Each question was written for this page from the Vermont Statutes Online, the Commission's Administrative Rules and the Office's own pages, and names its source so you can check it. National topics and real estate math are not on this page.
