The state part, section by section
The Rhode Island State Content Outline for Sales and Broker Exams, effective August 21, 2025, gives brokers 60 scored questions: duties under licensing law 2, licensing requirements 6, activities of licensees 22, additional topics 18, broker only 12. The bank holds those counts.
Broker only: twelve questions the salesperson exam lacks
Place of business, record keeping and supervision, commingling, escrow accounts and disputed deposits, the license required to own a share of a brokerage, hearings and sanctions.
Agency by statute, not common law
Chapter 5-20.6 presumes every licensee is a transaction facilitator until a signed mandatory relationship disclosure says otherwise. Its own terms are on the exam outline and in the bank: designated client representative, dual facilitator, transaction coordinator.
Disputed deposits go to the general treasurer within 180 days of the original deposit (R.I. Gen. Laws 5-20.5-26).
The recovery account pays at most $50,000 for any one licensee (R.I. Gen. Laws 5-20.5-5).
Nobody may own a share of a brokerage firm without a broker's license (R.I. Gen. Laws 5-20.5-27).
