What score passes the Rhode Island adjuster exam?
The candidate handbook gives a passing score of 70, reported as a scaled score that is neither the number nor the percentage of questions answered correctly. Numeric scores are reported only to failing candidates.
Who needs an adjuster license in Rhode Island?
Anyone who acts as a public, company or independent adjuster (R.I. Gen. Laws § 27-10-1.2). A company adjuster is an insurer's employee; an independent adjuster is its contractor. Attorneys, life and health claim handlers and persons settling only subrogation claims are exempt.
Does Rhode Island require continuing education for adjusters?
Yes. The Department's rule asks for 24 hours every two years, 3 of them in ethics, reported with the biennial renewal. An adjuster not licensed for a full year before the biennium ends is exempt (230-RICR-20-50-4, § 4.9).
