Rhode Island gives two producer exams

Property Producer and Casualty Producer are separate exams, each with a general section and a Rhode Island section. The Rhode Island outlines give 20 questions to law common to both lines, then 6 to property law (the joint reinsurance association, flood notices, hurricane deductibles) or 12 to casualty law (automobile insurance, workers' compensation, medical malpractice).

Law that changed in 2026

From January 1, 2026 the guaranty association pays up to $1,000,000 for first-party property claims from one occurrence and no more than $500,000 for cybersecurity claims from one insured event. The joint reinsurance association's rule, the assigned risk plan manual and the medical malpractice rule are not asked.

  • Auto cancellation takes 30 days' notice, 10 for nonpayment, and nonrenewal 30 days before the policy period ends (230-RICR-20-05-2).
  • A hurricane deductible may not exceed 5 percent of insured value and is applied once in a calendar year (R.I. Gen. Laws §§ 27-76-2, 27-76-3).
  • Aftermarket parts need the owner's written consent on automobiles less than 48 months from manufacture (R.I. Gen. Laws § 27-10.2-2).
