The topic groups and their weights follow the Texas State Law Content Outline for Inspector Examinations (effective September 2, 2014) in the content outlines the commission's examination contractor publishes for it (https://www.pearsonvue.com/content/dam/VUE/vue/en/documents/publications/104401.pdf, document 104401, dated 09/2024), read the same day. Nothing comes from the state examination, the national examination, a course provider, a prep course or a question pool.

How it works

This unofficial Texas home inspector Standards of Practice test asks the state portion of the licensing exam: 124 of our own questions from 22 TAC 535.201 to 535.233 and Occupations Code Chapter 1102. Not affiliated with the Texas Real Estate Commission.

Texas home inspection practice test, section by section

The groups are the five sections of the Texas State Law Content Outline: structural, electrical and mechanical Standards of Practice (2, 3 and 3 scored items), Chapter 1102 (9) and the Subchapter R rules (8).

What is left out

The national portion. Texas uses the National Home Inspector Examination for it, a separate test of 200 items in 240 minutes with its own outline.

  • The report is due within two days of receipt of payment in full, unless the client agrees otherwise in writing (Rule 535.222).
  • Cooling equipment need not be run below 60 degrees Fahrenheit outdoors, nor a heat pump in heating mode above 70 (Rule 535.230).
  • A specific provision of the Standards of Practice takes precedence over a general one (Rule 535.227(e)).
