How this list was compiled: North Carolina General Statutes Chapter 143, Article 9F, the Home Inspector Licensure Act (G.S. 143-151.43 to 143-151.64), and the Board's rules, 11 NCAC 08 .1000 and .1100, as printed in the North Carolina Home Inspector Licensure Board's booklet Home Inspector Licensure Act and Board Rules, effective June 1, 2026 (https://www.ncosfm.gov/administrative/home-inspector-licensure-act-statutes-and-rules-1052026-rev/open), read on October 12, 2026. Every statute question was also matched that day against the General Assembly's own page of Article 9F (https://www.ncleg.gov/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/HTML/ByArticle/Chapter_143/Article_9F.html). The topic groups follow the five blocks of the examination in the Board's Candidate Information Bulletin, revision 7.0 of May 26, 2026 (https://www.ncosfm.gov/nc-home-inspector-licensure-board-osfm-quest-exam-candidate-information-bulletinrules-conduct/open): Standards of Practice (Rules .1100 to .1105 and .1116), Building (.1106 to .1108, .1113, .1115), Electrical (.1110), Mechanical (.1114) and Plumbing (.1109, .1111, .1112). Each question names its section and links to it. Licence: Own work. Every question, wrong choice and explanation was written for this site from the text of the statute and the rules. Nothing comes from the Board's examination, a course provider, a prep course or a question pool.

How building systems work and fail. Rule .1007 puts it on the exam, and no statute or rule states it, so it is not asked here.

  • With no date agreed in writing, the report is due within three business days after the inspection (G.S. 143-151.58).
  • A prepurchase inspection of three or more systems needs a summary page carrying the statute's own statement (G.S. 143-151.58).
  • An installed dishwasher is run through a complete cycle (Rule .1115).
