What the North Carolina questions cover

The Board's written examination instructions name the first part only as North Carolina rules and regulations and list no subtopics. This bank sorts the law its own way: sanitary rules, barbershops and permits, licenses and apprenticeship, renewal and display, the practice of barbering and its exemptions, discipline and penalties, and the Board.

  • Barber school is 1528 hours, then a 12-month apprenticeship under a licensed barber who stays on the premises (G.S. 86B-23, 86B-40).
  • Every license and shop permit expires on May 31 and is suspended automatically if it is not renewed (G.S. 86B-34, 86B-29).
  • A sanitary rating of at least 90 percent earns a shop a grade A, and under 80 percent fails (21 NCAC 06L .0118).

Questions and answers

Is this an NC state board barber exam practice test?

It practices one part of that examination: the questions on North Carolina rules and regulations. Every question here is on North Carolina law, with its section under the answer. Barbering and hair styling theory, the other part, is not asked.

How many questions are on the North Carolina barber exam?

The Board's written examination instructions give ten multiple-choice questions on North Carolina rules in 15 minutes and 110 on barbering and hair styling in 75 minutes. Each part needs a score of at least 70. Check the Board's site before you test.

Are these the real North Carolina barber exam questions?

No. This site has never seen the examination, and the Board did not write or review any of these questions. They come from Chapter 86B and from Title 21, Chapter 06 of the North Carolina Administrative Code.

Is this for the apprentice exam or the registered barber exam?

The written examination is taken for the apprentice license. A barber license follows a 12-month apprenticeship and a clinical examination conducted by the Board (G.S. 86B-23), which is hands-on work and cannot be practiced on a page.
