How this list was compiled: New Hampshire Revised Statutes Annotated, Chapter 310-A, Home Inspectors, sections 310-A:182 to 310-A:201 as amended through 2024 (the General Court's own site, https://gc.nh.gov/rsa/html/NHTOC/NHTOC-XXX-310-A.htm), and New Hampshire Code of Administrative Rules, Chapter Home 600, Standards of Practice, effective August 18, 2024 (https://gc.nh.gov/rules/state_agencies/home100-700.html), both read on October 15, 2026. The Board of Home Inspectors' pages at the Office of Professional Licensure and Certification (https://www.oplc.nh.gov/find-board/board-home-inspectors) were read the same day. Each question names its section and links to it. Licence: Own work. Every question, wrong choice and explanation was written for this site from the text of the statute and the rules. Nothing comes from an examination, a course provider, a prep course or a question pool.
How it works
This unofficial New Hampshire home inspector license practice test asks what state law says: 64 of our own questions from RSA 310-A:182 to 310-A:201 and the Home 600 standards. Not affiliated with the New Hampshire Board of Home Inspectors.

What the questions cover
The statute first: the board, who needs a license, eligibility, continuing education, misconduct, penalties, and the radon and mold certification sections. Then rule Home 600: the written contract, the report, and what New Hampshire's standards add system by system.
What is left out
How building systems work and fail, which the national examination asks. The code of ethics in RSA 310-A:185, and the system-by-system lists of Home 600 beyond what New Hampshire's rule adds. Also the licensing rules, Home 300 and 400, which are being replaced: a new Home 300 takes effect December 14, 2026.
Practicing without a license is a class B misdemeanor for a person and a felony for a business organization (RSA 310-A:199).
Every inspection needs a written contract stating that it follows the New Hampshire standards of practice, Home 600 (Home 603.01).
One of the 20 continuing education hours in each two-year period must cover building regulations (RSA 310-A:192).
Questions and answers
What exam does New Hampshire require for a home inspector license?
The National Home Inspector Examination: board rule Home 303.01 names it, and RSA 310-A:187 has the board adopt one independent, nationally recognized, proctored examination. The testing organization sends the score to the licensing office.
Does New Hampshire have its own home inspector exam?
No. The state writes no examination and publishes no pass mark of its own. The 50-question test offered here is this site's choice, on New Hampshire law and standards only.
How do you become a home inspector in New Hampshire?
Be 18 with a high school education, complete 80 hours of board-approved education, pass the examination, show proof of liability insurance and file the state police criminal record authorization (RSA 310-A:190, 310-A:191).
How much does a New Hampshire home inspector license cost?
The licensing office's fee page, read October 15, 2026, lists $220 for the application, $220 for renewal and $220 for reinstatement. Licenses renew every two years (RSA 310-A:195).
Do New Hampshire home inspectors need a certification for radon or mold work?
Yes, a separate one. Designing or installing radon mitigation devices takes a current national radon certification (RSA 310-A:189-a), and paid residential mold assessment takes a national third party certification (RSA 310-A:189-b).
