How this list was compiled: Every question rests on one section of Oregon law, read on 2026-10-02 and again on 2026-10-03 and named in the question's own source line. Oregon Revised Statutes chapter 471, Alcoholic Liquors Generally (2025 Edition), read on the Legislative Assembly's site, https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/bills_laws/ors/ors471.html : sections 471.001, 471.030, 471.130, 471.135, 471.322, 471.344, 471.360, 471.365, 471.375, 471.380, 471.385, 471.406, 471.410, 471.412, 471.430, 471.480, 471.482, 471.542, 471.547, 471.549, 471.551, 471.559, 471.565, 471.567, 471.675 and 471.990. The Legislature's table of sections amended in the 2026 regular session, https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/bills_laws/lawsstatutes/2026OrLawAR.pdf , lists one section of the chapter, 471.810, which is not used. Rules of the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission, Oregon Administrative Rules chapter 845, read at Cornell Legal Information Institute, https://www.law.cornell.edu/regulations/oregon/chapter-845 , which says state regulations are updated quarterly: 845-006-0335, 845-006-0340, 845-006-0345, 845-006-0425, 845-009-0020, 845-009-0100 and 845-009-0105. The pass mark of 70 percent is the rule's own, OAR 845-009-0105(1); no statute or rule read gives a number of questions for the examination, and the bank stores none. The commission's rules were read in Cornell's copy because the Secretary of State's rules site did not open on either day; Cornell's history line for each rule was read on 2026-10-03, and for OAR 845-006-0345 it ends at OLCC 13-2024, effective 3/31/2025. Questions from OAR 845-006-0345 name the rule and the heading of its section and give no subsection number, because an older copy of that rule numbers its sections differently and the numbering could not be compared with the Secretary of State's own text. The five-year term of a service permit and the commission's own final test are from the commission's permit page, https://www.oregon.gov/olcc/Pages/Alcohol-Service-Permits.aspx , read 2026-10-03. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute and rule text; nothing is copied from a course provider, a workbook or another practice test. Short quotations from the law are marked.

What the server exam covers, and what is here

ORS 471.542(4) lists the course curriculum: alcohol's effects, the problem customer, state alcohol laws, liability and intervention. This bank holds the law part: the service permit, identification, people under 21, visibly intoxicated persons, hours and penalties. The marijuana worker permit is a different test and is not covered.

The one exam number the rules give

OAR 845-009-0105 sets the passing grade at 70 percent. No statute or rule read on October 3, 2026 gives a number of questions, so Exam mode draws 25, which is this site's choice, and marks them against 70 percent.

  • Two ages: identification on any reasonable doubt of 21, and that doubt exists when a person appears under 26.
  • Opening hours: 7:00 a.m. on licensed premises, 6:00 a.m. with an off-premises sales license. Both end at 2:30 a.m.

Questions and answers

What score do you need to pass the Oregon alcohol server exam?

70 percent. OAR 845-009-0105 sets that passing grade and lets an applicant who does not pass retake the exam. The statutes and rules read give no number of questions for the real exam.

Who needs a service permit in Oregon?

Anyone working for a licensee who takes part in mixing, selling or serving alcohol for consumption on the premises, fills customers' own containers, or directly supervises those workers. ORS 471.360 also covers the licensee, unless the commission waives it.

How long is an Oregon service permit good for?

Five years, according to the commission's permit page. ORS 471.542(2) has a permittee prove requalification once every five years, and that includes retaking the course and passing the examination.

How old do you have to be to serve alcohol in Oregon?

At least 18 for a service permit, under ORS 471.375. ORS 471.482 lets employees aged 18 to 20 take orders, serve and sell where that is incidental to serving food, and bars them from mixing.

Is this the test the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission gives?

No. It is unofficial practice written from the statutes and rules, so none of these is a real exam question. The commission gives its own test online after an approved course, and did not write or review this page.
