How it works
This unofficial Tennessee server permit practice test holds 76 questions written from the rules of the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Certified programs teach the required alcohol awareness course and give its test.

What Tennessee's rule makes a course teach
Rule 0100-08-.04 sets the curriculum: alcohol's effect on the body, when to intervene, handling people without confrontation, Tennessee's laws and rules, and checking identification. This bank drills the law: the permit, the course and its test, hours, age, giveaways, the licensee's duties and fines.
One written test for each program, no set length
Each certified program gives its own written test when the class ends. The rule sets a pass mark and no question count, so the 25 questions Exam mode draws here are this site's choice.
- A new server has 61 days from the original hire date to hold a permit, once only (TABC Server Permit page).
- No sale or consumption from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m., or to 10 a.m. on Sunday, noon where the local government opted out of the longer hours (Rule 0100-01-.03(2)).
- After 10 p.m., one drink at a time for each customer (Rule 0100-01-.03(15)).
Questions and answers
How long is a TN server permit good for?
Two years from the date of issuance for permits issued from January 1, 2025, and five years for those issued earlier, by the Commission's Server Permit page.
How old do you have to be to serve alcohol in Tennessee?
At least 18 (Rule 0100-01-.03(10)). The Commission's FAQ adds that where the establishment permits smoking on the premises, the server must be at least 21.
Is this a Tennessee alcohol serving license practice test?
Servers in Tennessee hold a server permit; the business holds the license. This page practices the Commission's rules behind that permit. It is unofficial, and no certified program's test question is here.
What score do you need to pass the Tennessee server permit class?
At least 70 percent on the written test, or higher if the certified program requires it (Rule 0100-08-.05). After a failed test, a second examination is scheduled within 30 days; otherwise the whole class is repeated.
