How this list was compiled: Every question rests on one section of Washington law, read on 2026-10-12 on the Legislature's own site and named in the question's source line. The Revised Code of Washington, https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=66 : sections 66.20.180, 66.20.200, 66.20.210, 66.20.310, 66.20.340, 66.28.090, 66.44.200, 66.44.270, 66.44.290, 66.44.310, 66.44.316 and 66.44.350. The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board's rules in the Washington Administrative Code: chapter 314-17 WAC, Mandatory Alcohol Server Training (last update 1/20/26), https://app.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=314-17 , and chapter 314-11 WAC, general requirements for licensees, https://app.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=314-11 . The exam facts (80 percent to pass, a course of at least three hours) are from WAC 314-17-060; no rule read gives the standardized exam's length or a time limit. The board's own page on the permit: https://lcb.wa.gov/mastrvp/mandatory_alcohol_server_training . Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute and rule text; nothing is copied from a training provider, a workbook, the board's standardized exam or another practice test. The explanations restate the public text of the law and quote it in part.

How it works

This unofficial alcohol permit practice test for WA (Washington State) holds 94 questions written from Title 66 RCW and Title 314 WAC. Certified providers teach the MAST course and give the board's standardized exam.

Read the full guide

What the MAST course covers, and what is here

WAC 314-17-060 lists the subjects: liquor laws and rules, employing persons under 21, legal hours, prohibited conduct, required signs, lighting and sanctions, plus those of RCW 66.20.320, such as alcohol's effects and intervention. This bank drills the law; effects and intervention belong to the course.

How long the exam is

The board's standardized exam follows a course of at least three hours (WAC 314-17-060). No rule read gives its length or a time limit, so the 25 questions of a mock exam here are this site's choice.

  • A permit is due within 60 days of hire and is the sole property of its holder (RCW 66.20.310, WAC 314-17-030).
  • Identification past its expiration date cannot be used to verify age (WAC 314-11-025).
  • No liquor is sold, served or drunk on the premises between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. (WAC 314-11-070).

Questions and answers

How long is a MAST permit good for in Washington?

Five years. WAC 314-17-020 says a class 12 or 13 permit expires on the first day of the month, five years following the month the standardized exam was passed.

What is the difference between a class 12 and a class 13 permit?

Class 12, from age 21, covers managers, bartenders who mix or draw from a tap, and anyone supervising class 13 holders. Class 13, from age 18, covers taking orders, carrying drinks to customers, and opening or pouring beer or wine at the table (WAC 314-17-015).

What score do you need to pass the MAST exam?

At least 80 percent, unless the board stipulates otherwise (WAC 314-17-060). A score here measures this bank of state law questions, not the board's standardized exam.

Is there an alcohol license practice test for WA servers?

Servers and bartenders in Washington State hold a MAST permit, not a liquor license; the business holds the license. This page practices the law behind that permit, RCW 66.20.300 to 66.20.350 and Title 314 WAC. It covers Washington State only.

Are these the real MAST exam questions?

No. This site has never seen the board's standardized exam. The questions were written from Title 66 RCW and Title 314 WAC, and the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board did not write or review them.
