How this list was compiled: Every question rests on one section of chapter 125 of the Wisconsin Statutes (Alcohol Beverages), read on 2026-10-12 in the Legislature's own copy, https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/statutes/statutes/125 , which that day read 'Updated 2023-24 Wis. Stats. Published and certified under s. 35.18. October 1, 2026' and is named in the question's source line: sections 125.02, 125.035, 125.039, 125.04, 125.07, 125.075, 125.085, 125.09, 125.11, 125.17, 125.175, 125.18, 125.25, 125.26, 125.315, 125.32, 125.51 and 125.68. One question on the course exam's pass mark and the facts about the course on the page are from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue's 'Responsible Beverage Server Training Course' common questions for course providers (dated December 5, 2023), https://www.revenue.wi.gov/Pages/FAQS/rbs-courses.aspx . The department sets no number of questions and no time limit for a course's exam. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute text; nothing is copied from an approved course, a provider's exam, the department's Publication 302 or another practice test. The explanations restate the public text of the law and quote it in part.

How it works

This unofficial Wisconsin bartending practice test is free to take online and holds 95 questions written from chapter 125 of the Wisconsin Statutes. Approved providers teach the responsible beverage server course and give its exam.

Read the full guide

What the server course covers, and what is here

The Department of Revenue expects an approved course to review chapter 125, the enforcement parts of chapter 139 and its Publication 302, and to teach alcohol's effects, levels of intoxication and tobacco sales. This bank drills chapter 125 only: the operator's license, underage and intoxicated persons, proof of age, closing hours.

The course exam

Each approved course ends in its own comprehensive exam, and the department requires a retake for a student who does not pass the first time. It sets no question count and no time limit, so the 25 questions of a mock exam here are this site's choice.

  • Renewing an operator's license does not require the course again (s. 125.17(6)(a)1.).
  • Taverns close from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., from 2:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and not at all on January 1 (s. 125.32(3)).
  • An underage person may be served when with a parent, guardian or spouse of legal drinking age (s. 125.07(1)(a)).

Questions and answers

How old do you have to be to bartend in Wisconsin?

18. Section 125.04(5)(d)2. issues operator's licenses only to applicants who have attained 18, and ss. 125.32(2) and 125.68(2) let a person of at least 18 serve under the immediate supervision of a licensed operator who is on the premises.

How long is a Wisconsin bartender license good for?

One or two years, as the municipal governing body decides, ending June 30, or December 31 in a 1st class city (s. 125.17(3)). The statute calls it an operator's license, and it is valid only in the municipality that issued it.

What score do you need to pass the Wisconsin responsible beverage server exam?

At least 80 percent on the course's comprehensive exam, by the Department of Revenue's requirements for approved courses. A score here measures this bank of chapter 125 questions, not a provider's exam.

Are these the real Wisconsin bartending test questions?

No. This site has never seen an approved provider's exam. The questions were written from chapter 125 of the Wisconsin Statutes, and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue did not write or review them.
