How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the four areas of the MPJE Competency Statements that the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy publishes at https://nabp.pharmacy/programs/examinations/mpje/competency-statements/ (opened 2026-10-14): Area 1 Licensure/Personnel 22%, Area 2 Pharmacist Practice 33%, Area 3 Dispensing Requirements 24%, Area 4 Pharmacy Operations 21%. The 120 questions are 26, 40, 29 and 25. Every fact was read on 2026-10-14 in three texts the New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions, publishes and names on its page "What should I study to prepare for the MPJE for New York State?" (https://www.op.nysed.gov/professions/pharmacist/license-requirements/mpje-requirements): Education Law Article 137, Pharmacy, sections 6800 to 6825 (https://www.op.nysed.gov/professions/pharmacist/laws-rules-regulations/article-137); Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, Part 63, Pharmacy (https://www.op.nysed.gov/professions/pharmacist/laws-rules-regulations/part-63); and Rules of the Board of Regents, Part 29, section 29.7 (https://www.op.nysed.gov/title8/rules-board-regents/part-29). Each question names its section. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site, written from the public text of the New York statute, regulations and rules. Nothing is taken from the MPJE, the Pre-MPJE, NABP's sample items, a prep company or a review book.

How it works

This unofficial NYS MPJE study guide is 120 practice questions of our own on New York pharmacy law. The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) owns the MPJE; neither NABP nor the New York State Education Department is affiliated with this page.

What the State says to study

The Education Department's page "What should I study to prepare for the MPJE for New York State?" lists the laws. Three of them stand behind these questions, each read October 14, 2026 on op.nysed.gov: Education Law Article 137, Part 63 of the Commissioner's Regulations, and Regents Rule 29.7. The four topic groups carry the weights of NABP's published MPJE Competency Statements.

A New York pharmacy law study guide, in part

Practice for an exam, not medical advice. The State's list also names Public Health Law Article 33 and 10 NYCRR Part 80 on controlled substances. They were not read for this bank, so nothing is asked from them. Federal law is on the federal pharmacy law page.

  • A prescriber blocks substitution only by writing d a w in the box, in the prescriber's own handwriting (Education Law § 6810).
  • One pharmacist may be helped by two registered pharmacy technicians or four unlicensed persons, four people at most (8 NYCRR 29.7).
  • Prescription records, transferred prescriptions and patient medication profiles are each kept five years (§ 6810; 8 NYCRR 63.6).

Questions and answers

Is there a free NY MPJE study guide?

Yes. The Education Department's page "What should I study to prepare for the MPJE for New York State?" lists each law and links the State's own texts at no cost. Here three of those texts become 120 questions, each naming the section to reread.

How many questions are on the New York MPJE?

NABP's test day page gives 120 computer-based questions in 2.5 hours. The exam adapts to your answers, is reported as pass or fail, and allows 5 attempts per jurisdiction.

What does the NYS pharmacy law study guide cover?

The State's list includes Education Law Articles 130 and 137, Regents Rules Parts 17, 28 and 29, Commissioner's Regulations Parts 59 and 63, Public Health Law Article 33, 10 NYCRR Part 80 and federal law. This page asks Article 137, Part 63 and Rule 29.7.

Does New York use the Uniform MPJE?

New York was not among the Uniform MPJE jurisdictions NABP listed on October 14, 2026. The Education Department's license requirements name two examinations, the NAPLEX and the MPJE, both to be passed within 5 years.

Are these real New York MPJE questions?

No. All 120 were written for this site from the public text of the Education Law, the Commissioner's Regulations and the Regents Rules. None is taken from the MPJE, the Pre-MPJE or NABP's sample items, and no New York agency has reviewed them.
