How it works
This MPJE Massachusetts practice exam is unofficial. Its 120 questions are our own, on Board of Registration in Pharmacy regulations and the Controlled Substances Act. The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) owns the MPJE; neither it nor the Board is affiliated with us.

An MPJE practice test, Massachusetts law only
Two public texts stand behind the questions, both read October 12, 2026: seven chapters of 247 CMR, from 3.00 to 20.00, in the copies posted on mass.gov, and five sections of the Controlled Substances Act, M.G.L. c. 94C, §§ 17 to 23, on malegislature.gov. The four areas carry the weights of NABP's published MPJE Competency Statements.
Six schedules, not five
Practice for an exam, not medical advice. Massachusetts keeps a sixth schedule for all prescription drugs not in the first five (M.G.L. c. 94C, § 2), and many questions turn on it. Federal law is on the federal pharmacy law page.
- A Schedule II prescription is void 30 days after issue and fills for 30 days at most, with listed 90-day exceptions (c. 94C, § 23).
- Schedule VI prescriptions are good for one year from the date of issue (247 CMR 9.04).
- The Schedule II perpetual inventory is reconciled by physical count at least every ten days (247 CMR 9.21).
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Massachusetts MPJE?
120, in 2.5 hours at a computer, by NABP's test day page, and the exam adapts as you go. Exam mode on this page is the same length: 120 questions, 150 minutes.
What is a passing MPJE score in Massachusetts?
247 CMR 3.01(5) asks for an MPJE score of not less than 75% and the same on the NAPLEX. NABP reports the MPJE as pass or fail, so a percent here is not that score.
Is there a free MPJE Massachusetts study guide?
The law is free to read: 247 CMR on mass.gov and Chapter 94C on malegislature.gov. This page turns them into 120 questions, each naming its section, so a miss sends you to the paragraph.
How long do you have to pass the MPJE after the NAPLEX in Massachusetts?
247 CMR 3.01(7): an applicant who fails one of the two must reapply for it within one year of the original examination for both scores to count together; otherwise both are retaken.
Are these real Massachusetts MPJE questions?
No. All 120 were written for this site from the public text of the Massachusetts regulations and General Laws. None is taken from the MPJE, the Pre-MPJE or NABP's sample items, and no Massachusetts agency has reviewed them.
