What the Maine part of the exam asks

Of the 40 scored Maine questions, 28 are on law common to property and casualty: the superintendent, definitions, licensing, marketing practices, and cancellation and nonrenewal. Two are on the standard fire policy and hurricane deductibles. Ten are on casualty: automobile insurance and workers' compensation.

Taking Property or Casualty alone

The single-line exams reuse the same 28 common questions. Property alone has 30 scored Maine questions and Casualty alone has 38.

  • A certificate of mailing proves receipt of a cancellation notice on the 5th calendar day, a nonrenewal notice on the 3rd (24-A M.R.S. §2915, §2917).
  • The Maine standard fire policy lets the company cancel on ten days' written notice (24-A M.R.S. §3002).
  • The guaranty association pays up to $300,000 a claim, $25,000 of unearned premium a policy, and workers' compensation in full (24-A M.R.S. §4438).

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the Maine property and casualty exam?

At least $50,000 for one person, $100,000 for one accident, $25,000 for property damage, $2,000 medical payments and $500 for towing and storage (29-A M.R.S. §1605). Uninsured vehicle coverage is required too (24-A M.R.S. §2902).
