How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the four areas of the MPJE Competency Statements that the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy publishes at https://nabp.pharmacy/programs/examinations/mpje/competency-statements/ (opened 2026-10-14): Area 1 Licensure/Personnel 22%, Area 2 Pharmacist Practice 33%, Area 3 Dispensing Requirements 24%, Area 4 Pharmacy Operations 21%. The 120 questions are 26, 40, 29 and 25. Every fact was read on 2026-10-14 in the two texts the Maine Board of Pharmacy links from its Laws & Rules page (https://www.maine.gov/pfr/professionallicensing/professions/board-pharmacy/home/laws-rules): the Maine Pharmacy Act, Title 32, chapter 117 of the Maine Revised Statutes, in the Legislature's copy generated October 5, 2026 (https://legislature.maine.gov/statutes/32/title32ch117sec0.html), and the Board's rules, 02-392 Code of Maine Rules, on the Secretary of State's rules page (https://www.maine.gov/sos/rulemaking/agency-rules/department-professional-and-financial-regulation-rules#392): chapters 4, 5, 6-A, 13, 19, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26 in the compiled chapters 1 to 38, and chapter 7, Licensure and Employment of Pharmacy Technicians, as amended January 1, 2025. Each question names its section. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site, written from the public text of the Maine statute and rules. Nothing is taken from the MPJE, the Pre-MPJE, NABP's sample items, a prep company or a review book.

Chapter 117 and the Board's rules

Each question was written from one of two texts the Maine Board of Pharmacy links from its Laws & Rules page, read October 14, 2026: the Maine Pharmacy Act, Title 32, chapter 117, and the Board's rules, 02-392, including the technician chapter amended January 1, 2025. The four topic areas and their weights are NABP's published MPJE Competency Statements.

Maine law only

The Board's licensing page sends applicants to NABP for the NAPLEX and the MPJE, and Maine was not on NABP's Uniform MPJE list on October 14, 2026. Maine's controlled substance schedules sit outside chapter 117 and are not asked; federal questions are on the federal pharmacy law page. Practice for an exam, not medical advice.

  • Emergency maintenance drug supply: 30 days or the smallest standard unit, 7 days for Schedule III or IV, never Schedule I or II (section 13786-F).
  • Prescription life: 15 months for a noncontrolled drug, 90 days to present a controlled substance prescription (Board rules, Chapter 19).
  • Generic substitution is the default unless the practitioner handwrites 'DAW' or similar words; self-paying patients are asked their preference (section 13781).

Questions and answers

What does the Maine pharmacy law exam cover?

The MPJE for Maine asks federal and Maine law together under NABP's four areas: licensure and personnel 22%, pharmacist practice 33%, dispensing requirements 24%, pharmacy operations 21%. This page covers the Maine half, from chapter 117 and the Board's rules.

Where can I read Maine pharmacy law for free?

The Legislature publishes Title 32, chapter 117 online, and the Secretary of State posts the Board's rules, 02-392. The Board's Laws & Rules page links both. Each question here names the section or rule chapter it came from.

Does Maine require the MPJE?

Yes. Chapter 4 of the Board's rules asks every applicant for passing scores on the NAPLEX and the MPJE, and the Board's instructions tell reciprocity applicants to pass the MPJE through NABP before filing.

How many questions are on the Maine MPJE?

NABP's test day page gives 120 computer-based questions in 2.5 hours, adaptive, reported as pass or fail, with 5 attempts per jurisdiction. The timed run on this page uses the same 120 questions and 150 minutes.

Are these questions from the real exam?

No. Every question, choice and explanation was written for this site from Maine's public statute and rules. Nothing comes from the MPJE, the Pre-MPJE or NABP's sample items, and the Maine Board of Pharmacy has not reviewed them.
