How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the four areas of the MPJE Competency Statements that the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy publishes at https://nabp.pharmacy/programs/examinations/mpje/competency-statements/ (opened 2026-10-14): Area 1 Licensure/Personnel 22%, Area 2 Pharmacist Practice 33%, Area 3 Dispensing Requirements 24%, Area 4 Pharmacy Operations 21%. The 120 questions are 26, 40, 29 and 25. Every fact was read on 2026-10-14 in the texts the Hawaii Board of Pharmacy lists on its Licensing Laws and Rules page (https://cca.hawaii.gov/pvl/boards/pharmacy/statute_rules/): Hawaii Revised Statutes chapter 461, Pharmacists and Pharmacy, every section, on the Legislature's site (https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol10_Ch0436-0474/HRS0461/HRS_0461-.htm); Hawaii Administrative Rules chapter 16-95, Pharmacists and Pharmacies, the compilation effective August 15, 2016 (https://cca.hawaii.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/HAR-16-95-C_0816.pdf); and, from the two other chapters that page lists, sections 328-16, 328-16.2, 328-16.5, 328-17.6, 328-17.7, 328-17.8 and 328-91 to 328-99 of chapter 328, Food, Drugs, and Cosmetics, and sections 329-37.5, 329-38, 329-39, 329-39.5, 329-75 and 329-101 of chapter 329, the Uniform Controlled Substances Act (https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol06_Ch0321-0344/). Each question names its section. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site, written from the public text of the Hawaii statutes and rules. Nothing is taken from the MPJE, the Pre-MPJE, NABP's sample items, a prep company or a review book.
How it works
This unofficial study guide for the Hawaii MPJE asks 120 questions of our own on Hawaii pharmacy law. It is not affiliated with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), the exam's owner, or the Hawaii Board of Pharmacy.

Chapter 461, chapter 16-95 and two more
The questions come from four texts on the Hawaii Board of Pharmacy's Licensing Laws and Rules page, read October 14, 2026: Hawaii Revised Statutes chapter 461, the Board's rules in HAR chapter 16-95, and the prescription, labeling and substitution sections of chapters 328 and 329. Their split across four areas follows NABP's published MPJE Competency Statements.
Hawaii law only
The Board's examination page names the NAPLEX and the MPJE, and Hawaii was not on NABP's Uniform MPJE list on October 14, 2026. The rules date from 2016, so technician registration is asked from the 2025 statute. Federal questions are on the federal pharmacy law page. Practice for an exam, not medical advice.
A Schedule II prescription is filled within seven days of issue; Schedules III to V stop at three months and two refills (HRS 329-38).
Controlled substance prescriptions must originate within the State; an out-of-state oral prescription for another drug goes to a pharmacist only (HRS 329-38, 328-17.6).
Five years is Hawaii's record period: prescription records, transfer records, faxed orders and records of dispensing (HRS 461-13, HAR 16-95-82 to 16-95-93).
Questions and answers
What passing score does Hawaii set for the MPJE?
HAR 16-95-22 asks for the Hawaii MPJE with a passing score of at least seventy-five points. NABP reports the exam as pass or fail and allows 5 attempts per jurisdiction.
What should I study for the Hawaii MPJE?
The Board's laws page lists HRS chapter 461, HAR chapter 16-95, HRS chapter 329 on controlled substances, chapter 328 on drugs and the general licensing act, chapter 436B. Federal law is asked in the same sitting.
How long is the Hawaii MPJE?
NABP's test day page gives 120 questions in 2.5 hours on a computer that adapts to your answers. The timed run here matches it: 120 questions in 150 minutes.
Where is the Hawaii MPJE given?
The Board's examination page says NABP administers the NAPLEX and MPJE electronically year-round throughout the U.S., and that the test center in Hawaii is on Oahu. The State application must be approved before the examination.
Are these real Hawaii MPJE questions?
No. They were written for this site from the public text of Hawaii's statutes and rules. None comes from the MPJE, the Pre-MPJE or NABP's sample items, and the Hawaii Board of Pharmacy has not reviewed them.
