How this list was compiled: Outline: Mathematics Blueprint (8/6/2020), Kentucky Department of Education, https://www.education.ky.gov/AA/Acct/Documents/FINAL%20Mathematics%20Blueprint%2020200806.pdf, read 2026-10-13: the five grade 4 domains and the target percent of items in each. Standards: Kentucky Academic Standards for Mathematics (adopted 2019), grade 4, https://www.education.ky.gov/curriculum/standards/kyacadstand/Documents/Kentucky_Academic_Standards_Mathematics.pdf, read 2026-10-13: each question names the standard it practices, inside the limits the standards set (whole numbers to 1,000,000; fractions with denominators 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 100; products of a four-digit by a one-digit number or of two two-digit numbers; four-digit dividends with one-digit divisors). The number of questions is that of the 2025-2026 Testing Items and Times Chart, https://www.education.ky.gov/AA/distsupp/Documents/KSA_Testing_Items_and_Times.pdf. Every calculation is worked out a second time from the numbers in the question. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site. Nothing is copied or reworded from a Kentucky Summative Assessment, a K-PREP test, a released item, a practice test of the state or another practice test, and no example of the standards document is reused. No released item was read.

What a 4th grade practice K-PREP math test covers now
Kentucky's blueprint gives each of five domains a share of the test, kept here. Base Ten and Fractions are the two largest, 11 questions each: place value to 1,000,000, rounding, multiplying by one and two digits, dividing by one digit, then equal fractions, comparing, adding mixed numbers, multiplying a fraction by a whole number, and decimals to hundredths. Operations and Algebraic Thinking: comparisons, remainders, factors, primes, patterns. Measurement and Data: units, time, area, dot plots, angles. Geometry: lines, triangles, symmetry.
Questions and answers
What replaced the K-PREP test in Kentucky?
The Kentucky Summative Assessment, or KSA. The Kentucky Department of Education says the tests were previously called K-PREP, the Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress. They are given in grades 3 to 8, 10 and 11; fourth graders take reading, mathematics and science.
How many questions are on the 4th grade KSA math test?
40, by the Testing Items and Times Chart for 2025-2026. A form has 27 to 30 multiple-choice questions; the others are multiple select, technology enhanced, short answer and extended response.
How long is the 4th grade math test in Kentucky?
120 minutes, in two parts. Part A is taken without a calculator. In the calculator part, grades 3 to 5 have an on-screen four-function calculator.
What is a passing score on the 4th grade KSA math test?
The state sets no percent to pass. Results come as one of four performance levels: Novice, Apprentice, Proficient or Distinguished. A percent right on this page is practice, not one of those levels.
