Each question names the indicator it practices as the table prints it, from Nebraska's College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics (2022). Only indicators the table marks for the state test are used; none of the eight marked "Assessed at the local level". The unit conversion is the one on the state's Mathematics Grade 4 Reference Sheet, https://www.education.ne.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/MATH_Reference_Sheet-Gr4_ENG_Margaret-Sis.pdf. Every numeric answer is arithmetic on the numbers in the question, worked out a second time as a check. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site. How it works

Fourth graders in Nebraska no longer sit NeSA: since spring 2018 the state math test is NSCAS. These 44 unofficial questions follow its grade 4 table of specifications. They are ours, not affiliated with the Nebraska Department of Education.

What the Nebraska 4th grade math test covers

Nebraska's table of specifications splits grade 4 into four strands, and the questions keep their shares. Number is 35 to 45 percent: whole numbers to 1,000,000, decimals to hundredths, comparing fractions, adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators, factors and multiples. Algebra, 20 to 30 percent, is multi-digit multiplying, dividing by one digit and remainders. Geometry, 15 to 25 percent, is lines, angles, symmetry, unit conversions, perimeter and area. Data, 10 to 20 percent, is line plots with fractions.

Left to the classroom

Eight indicators carry the table's mark "Assessed at the local level", among them adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers with an algorithm, and are not here. The other 24 each have a question, with its code, such as 4.N.3.c, under the answer.

Questions and answers

Is the NeSA math test still given in 4th grade?

No. Fourth graders take NSCAS mathematics. In March 2018 the Nebraska Department of Education announced that it would replace the NeSA-Math exam in grades 3 to 8, starting with that spring's test.

Can you use a calculator on the Nebraska 4th grade math test?

No. The state's calculator policy for the paper version gives grades 3 to 5 no calculator. A four-function calculator first appears in grade 6, and only for Part 1.

Is there a reference sheet for 4th grade NSCAS math?

Yes. The state posts reference sheets for grades 4 to 8. The grade 4 sheet gives the area and perimeter of a rectangle and a square, and conversions for length, volume, and weight or mass.

How is NSCAS math scored in 4th grade?

On a scale from 1000 to 1550, with one of three achievement levels: Developing, On Track or Advanced. The state documents read for this page publish no percent to pass, so a percent here is only practice.

Where are Nebraska's own 4th grade math sample tests?

The state's NSCAS Mathematics page sends grades 3 to 8 to sample tests on its test vendor's Nebraska portal, and the box under the questions links there. This page's questions are different ones.
