Each question names the indicator it practices as the table prints it, from Nebraska's College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics (2022). Only indicators the table marks for the state test are used; none of the four marked "Assessed at the local level". Every numeric answer is arithmetic on the numbers in the question, worked out twice. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site. What the Nebraska 7th grade math test covers

Nebraska's table of specifications splits grade 7 into five strands, and the 45 questions keep their shares. Algebra is 20 to 30 percent: equivalent expressions, two-step equations and inequalities. Data, also 20 to 30 percent, is questions that data can answer and the probability of compound and complementary events. Geometry, 15 to 25 percent, is angle pairs, composite shapes, prisms and circles. Number, 15 to 25 percent, is the four operations with negative numbers. Ratios and Proportions is 5 to 15 percent.

Left to the classroom

Four indicators carry the table's mark "Assessed at the local level" and are not here. The other 20 each have a question, with the code, such as 7.R.1.c, under the answer.

  • Nebraska's item specifications give the Number items no story: expect bare sums, products and quotients with negatives.
  • The grade 7 reference sheet prints the area, volume and percent change formulas and says to use 3.14 for π.

Questions and answers

Is the NeSA math test still given in 7th grade?

No. NSCAS mathematics took the place of the NeSA-Math exam in grades 3 to 8 starting with the spring 2018 test, as the Nebraska Department of Education announced in a news release that March.

Can you use a calculator on the Nebraska 7th grade math test?

On Part 1 only. Nebraska's calculator policy for the paper version gives grades 7 and 8 a scientific calculator for the first questions of Part 1, then has it collected. Graphing and programmable calculators are not allowed.

Is there a formula sheet for the Nebraska 7th grade math test?

Yes. The state's grade 7 reference sheet gives area formulas for six shapes, circumference, the volume and surface area of rectangular and triangular prisms, percent change and unit conversions. The NSCAS Mathematics page links to it.

How is NSCAS math scored in 7th grade?

Each student gets a scale score between 1000 and 1550 and an achievement level: Developing, On Track or Advanced. The state documents read for this page give no percent to pass, so a percent here is practice only.

Where is the state's own 7th grade NSCAS sample test?

The NSCAS Mathematics page sends grades 3 to 8 to sample tests on the Nebraska portal of the state's test vendor, and the box under the questions has the link. None of those items is used here.
