How this list was compiled: Outline: Mathematics Blueprint (8/6/2020), Kentucky Department of Education, https://www.education.ky.gov/AA/Acct/Documents/FINAL%20Mathematics%20Blueprint%2020200806.pdf, linked from the department's Assessment Blueprint page, read 2026-10-13: the five grade 3 domains and the target percent of items in each. Standards: Kentucky Academic Standards for Mathematics (adopted 2019), grade 3, https://www.education.ky.gov/curriculum/standards/kyacadstand/Documents/Kentucky_Academic_Standards_Mathematics.pdf, read 2026-10-13: each question names the standard it practices, inside the limits the standards set (products and quotients within 100, sums and differences within 1000, fractions with denominators 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8, rounding to the nearest 10 or 100). The number of questions is that of the 2025-2026 Testing Items and Times Chart, https://www.education.ky.gov/AA/distsupp/Documents/KSA_Testing_Items_and_Times.pdf. Every calculation is worked out a second time from the numbers in the question. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site. Nothing is copied or reworded from a Kentucky Summative Assessment, a K-PREP test, a released item, a practice test of the state or another practice test, and no example of the standards document is reused. What Kentucky tests in grade 3 math

The state's mathematics blueprint sets a share of the test for each of five domains, and this page keeps those shares. Operations and Algebraic Thinking is the largest, about a third: multiplying and dividing within 100, unknown factors, two-step word problems and patterns. Number and Operations in Base Ten: rounding, adding and subtracting within 1000, multiplying by tens. Fractions: halves, thirds, fourths, sixths and eighths on a number line, equal fractions and comparing. Measurement and Data: elapsed time, mass, pictographs, dot plots, area and perimeter. Geometry: polygons and equal parts.

Under each answer

The steps come first, then the standard the question practices, written as Kentucky writes it: KY.3.NF.2, for example. Reading is a separate KSA test and is not on this page.

  • Part A of the real math test is taken without a calculator, so practice the facts and the three-digit sums by hand.

Questions and answers

What is the Kentucky state test for 3rd grade called?

The Kentucky Summative Assessment, or KSA. The state says these tests were previously called K-PREP, the Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress. Third graders take two KSA tests: reading and mathematics.

How many questions are on the 3rd grade KSA math test?

42, by the state's Testing Items and Times Chart for 2025-2026. A form has 30 to 33 multiple-choice questions and three short-answer questions; the rest are multiple select or technology enhanced.

How long is the 3rd grade KSA math test?

120 minutes, given in two parts. In the calculator part, grades 3 to 5 have an on-screen four-function calculator.

What is a passing score on the KSA in 3rd grade?

The state reports four performance levels and no percent to pass: Novice, Apprentice, Proficient and Distinguished. A percent right on this page is practice, not one of those levels.
