The training route
The 12 hours of prelicense training must fall in the six months before the application: eight with a credentialed trainer and four on the laws and rules (WAC 308-19-100, 308-19-300).
Numbers the law sets
Collateral money reaches the trust account by the third banking day. Collateral goes back within five business days of written notice of exoneration. Records are kept three years (RCW 18.185.100).
What is left out
Jail telephone service, collect call companies, transporting clients and jail compliance are training topics with no public text, and are not asked.
A forfeiture is void if the court does not notify the surety in writing within 30 days of the missed date (RCW 10.19.090).
Each fugitive is a separate written contract with a licensed recovery agent (RCW 18.185.270).
An agency must disable its ATM and point-of-sale machines from taking electronic benefit cards (RCW 74.08.580).
Questions and answers
Do I need to take a test to get a bail bond agent license in Washington?
The rule asks for a passed written exam or proof of 12 hours of prelicense training (WAC 308-19-100). The Department of Licensing's bail bond page says it requires an exam for agents who do not have three years of experience.
What score do I need to pass the Washington bail bond agent exam?
85 percent. An applicant who scores lower waits at least seven days before reexamination (WAC 308-19-300). The Department's fee page lists $25 to retake the exam and no fee for the first exam.
How many questions are on the Washington bail bond agent exam?
The rules give the pass mark and the topics and publish no question count and no time limit. The 50-question round on this page is our own length, not the Department's.
How much does a Washington bail bond agent license cost?
$540 for an original bail bond agent license and $615 to renew it, by the fee rule and the Department's fee page (WAC 308-19-130).
How long is a Washington bail bond agent license good for?
One year from the date of issue. Renewal needs four hours of continued education, and a license not renewed within a year of expiring is canceled (WAC 308-19-140, 308-19-302).
