What grade 5 SC READY math covers

Grade 5 is weighted toward computing. Patterns, Algebra, and Functional Reasoning takes 17 to 21 of the 50 items on the 2026-27 blueprint: two-digit multipliers and divisors, decimal sums, adding and multiplying fractions, dividing with unit fractions, and expressions with parentheses. Measurement, Geometry, and Spatial Reasoning takes 11 to 14: composite figures, volume, unit conversion and, for the first time, the coordinate plane. Numerical Reasoning takes 9 to 11: decimals to thousandths and powers of 10. Data, Probability, and Statistical Reasoning takes 8 to 10.

One question or more for all 26 indicators

None of the 26 grade 5 indicators on the blueprint is skipped. Under each answer is its code in the 2025 standards, such as 5.PAFR.2.3. Conversion questions state the unit fact, as indicator 5.MGSR.2.1 describes.

  • No calculator section is listed for grades 3 to 5 in the state's format table, so do the long multiplication and division on paper.

Questions and answers

How many questions does SC READY math have in 5th grade?

Fifty count toward the score, one point each, by the 2026-27 blueprint; another 6 to 8 field test items may appear in spring. The 50 questions here are all multiple choice, though the real test mixes in other item types.

Is the 5th grade SC READY math test timed?

No. The state calls its times approximations for scheduling and lists about 105 minutes for mathematics in grades 3 to 5. Grade 5 math is given on one day, with one test ticket.

What SC READY math score does a 5th grader need?

There is no pass mark, only four levels on a scale score. For grade 5 math in 2026-27, Meets starts at 293 and Exceeds at 325; Approaches runs from 257 to 292, and anything from 100 to 256 is Does Not Meet.

What kinds of questions are on 5th grade SC READY math?

Four-option selected-response items, technology-enhanced items (drag and drop, drop-down, hot spot, matching) and keypad items where the student types a number or an expression. Graphing items, where students plot points or draw a line, appear in grades 4 and 5.

Do 5th graders take SC READY science?

No. The state lists SC READY science for grades 4 and 6. Fifth graders take mathematics and English language arts, which runs over three days: writing and two reading parts.
