How this list was compiled: Written from the Louisiana Revised Statutes, Title 32 (Motor Vehicles and Traffic Regulation), sections 32:408, 32:402.3, 32:422, 32:198, 32:416.1, 32:190, 32:190.1, 32:358, 32:303, 32:324, 32:341, 32:304, 32:306, 32:354, 32:191.3, 32:345, 32:191, 32:192, 32:191.2, 32:191.1, 32:1, 32:401, each read on the Louisiana State Legislature's site, https://legis.la.gov/Legis/Laws_Toc.aspx?folder=75&level=Parent, on 2026-09-30. Each question names its section and links to it. That a knowledge test is required is La. R.S. 32:408(C)(1): the motorcycle endorsement is made only after the applicant has passed tests specifically designed for the operation of such vehicles, and no written knowledge test or operator's skill test is required of an applicant who has completed the Motorcycle Safety, Awareness, and Operator Training Program of R.S. 32:402.3. R.S. 32:408(A)(3) says an applicant for a Class A to E license shall correctly answer at least eighty percent of the questions on each knowledge test; no Office of Motor Vehicles page giving the number of questions on the motorcycle test could be opened on 2026-09-30 (its motorcycle page returned 404), so no test length is used and no pass line is set. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute text; nothing is copied from the state's motorcycle guide, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation or another practice test.
How it works
This unofficial Louisiana motorcycle practice test has 67 questions from Title 32 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes, with the section under each. It covers the law only; riding technique is in the state's motorcycle guide, so study that too.

An endorsement, and a helmet for every rider
Louisiana has no separate motorcycle class: riding is an endorsement on a basic license, and an autocycle needs only a valid driver's license (La. R.S. 32:408). Every operator and passenger wears a helmet secured with a chin strap (32:190). A child of five or older may ride as a passenger only if properly seated and helmeted (32:191).
What Louisiana law says about the test
Section 32:408 allows the endorsement only after tests specifically designed for motorcycles; riders who complete the state's operator training program take no written knowledge or skill test. The same section asks 80 percent on each knowledge test for a class license. No Office of Motor Vehicles page with the test's length was read in September 2026, so no pass line is shown.
No more than two motorcycles may ride abreast in one lane, and nobody may ride between lanes or rows of vehicles (32:191.1).
Questions and answers
Does Louisiana have a motorcycle helmet law?
Yes, for everyone. No person may operate or ride upon a motorcycle, motor-driven cycle or motorized bicycle without a safety helmet secured with a chin strap (La. R.S. 32:190). Riders in an autocycle with a rollbar, roll cage or equal supports are left out.
Can you ride between lanes on a motorcycle in Louisiana?
No. Section 32:191.1 says no person shall operate a motorcycle between lanes of traffic or between adjacent lines or rows of vehicles, and a rider may not pass within the lane of the vehicle being overtaken. Police officers on duty are excepted.
Is this the Louisiana OMV's motorcycle test?
No. The Office of Motor Vehicles did not write these questions and has no connection with this site, which is not a government website. The answers come from Title 32 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes, one section at a time.
