Indiana property and casualty study guide: the state law part

The outline effective November 26, 2025 splits the Indiana part four ways: law common to all lines, surplus lines, personal lines regulations and commercial lines regulations. Producer licensing is on the Indiana life and health page, so the common part here asks the commissioner, surplus lines producers and consultants.

Indiana P C insurance study guide: the notice days

Cancellation and nonrenewal is the largest topic, because auto, homeowners and commercial policies each have their own notice days. Two nonrenewal periods were changed in 2026 for policies issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2027; those questions say so.

  • Auto cancellation: 20 days' notice, 10 for nonpayment; the insured may ask for the reason up to 15 days before the date (IC 27-7-6-5, 27-7-6-9).
  • A commercial policy over 90 days old: 45 days for a changed risk or cancelled reinsurance, 20 for fraud, 10 for nonpayment (IC 27-1-31-2).
  • Surplus lines producers remit 2 1/2 percent of gross premiums by February 1 each year (IC 27-1-15.8-4).
