This free adjuster license practice test for Indiana asks the state-law parts of the Independent Adjuster exam: 120 of our own questions, each naming its Indiana Code or federal section. Unofficial; not affiliated with the Indiana Department of Insurance.

Read the full guide

Which parts of the outline these are

The outline effective November 26, 2025 gives Indiana laws and department rules 16 of its scored questions and personal lines regulations 3, and lists the state's worker's compensation law inside a 5-question part. Everything else is policies, forms and adjusting practice, which are not asked here.

What only Indiana's code says

The independent adjuster license sits in IC 27-1-28; a public adjuster holds a certificate of authority under IC 27-1-27 instead. The claim practices list in IC 27-4-1-4.5 sets no number of days: coverage is affirmed or denied within a reasonable time after proof of loss.

Exam mode

Exam mode keeps the real exam's length and clock, but all of its questions are law questions.

  • The license lasts two years; renewal costs $40 and takes 24 hours of continuing education (IC 27-1-28-14, IC 27-1-28-19).
  • An independent adjuster may not hold a financial interest in an adjustment, or take salvage without the principal's written authority (IC 27-1-28-21).
  • A carrier denying worker's compensation liability tells the board and the employee within 30 days of the employer's knowledge of the claimed injury (IC 22-3-3-7).

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the Indiana adjuster exam?

The Independent Adjuster exam has 100 scored questions plus 5 unscored pretest questions, by the content outline effective November 26, 2025. The candidate handbook of August 2026 allots 105 minutes and gives a passing score of 70.

Is this Indiana adjuster license practice test free?

Yes. All 120 questions are open, and your answers stay in your browser. The questions were written for this page from the text of the law; none comes from the state exam, and the Indiana Department of Insurance did not write or review them.

Who needs an adjuster license in Indiana?

Under IC 27-1-28-10, no person may act as an independent adjuster in Indiana unless licensed or exempt. IC 27-1-28-6 leaves out insurers' own employees, attorneys acting as attorneys, and people who settle only crop, life or health claims.

What do you need to take the Indiana independent adjuster exam?

The candidate handbook of August 2026 asks for a 40-hour adjuster prelicensing course certificate, with testing within six months of the completion date. IC 27-1-28-15 waives the course and the exam for holders of an approved claims certification.

Does Indiana license public adjusters?

Yes, under its own chapter. A public adjuster holds a certificate of authority that expires each December 31, files a $10,000 surety bond and takes a separate 60-question examination (IC 27-1-27; candidate handbook of August 2026).
