How this list was compiled: Written from Indiana Code Title 14, Article 22 (Fish and Wildlife) in the 2026 edition published by the Indiana General Assembly at https://iga.in.gov/ic/2026/Title_14.pdf (IC 14-22-6-1, 6-7, 6-9, 6-10, 6-12, 6-16, 10-1, 10-5, 10-7, 11-1, 11-5, 11-6, 11-14, 11-18, 12-1.7, 12-1.8, 35-1, 35-2, 38-1, 38-3, 38-7 and 40-6), and from 312 IAC 9 (Fish and Wildlife), the Natural Resources Commission's rules in the current edition of the Indiana Administrative Code at https://iar.iga.in.gov/latestArticle/312/9 (312 IAC 9-1-17, 9-2-2, 9-2-9, 9-2-12, 9-2-15, 9-3-2, 9-3-4, 9-3-16, 9-3-17, 9-3-18, 9-4-2, 9-4-7.5 and 9-4-11). Both were read on 2026-10-12; each question names its section. The outline this page follows is the state's own: IC 14-22-35-1 gives the course as hunter safety, principles of conservation and sportsmanship, and IC 14-22-11-5 names its final exam. Two course facts (free classroom instruction; the online course carries a fee) are from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Education page, https://www.in.gov/dnr/law-enforcement/education/outdoor-education, read the same day. Neither the statute nor the department publishes a number of questions or a pass mark for the final exam, so none is given here. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the text of the Indiana Code and the Indiana Administrative Code and the facts on the department's public page; nothing is copied from a hunter education manual, a study guide, an online course, a chapter review or an examination.
How it works
Unofficial practice for the final exam in Indiana's hunter education course: our own questions from Indiana Code 14-22 and the rules in 312 IAC 9. Firearm safety itself is taught in the course.

Rules that are Indiana's own
A deer is registered within 48 hours, and its head stays attached until then. Rabbit hunters wear hunter orange, and squirrel hunters do from November 1 through January 31. An occupied ground blind shows 144 square inches of orange on each side.
What the exam is
The statute sets a course in hunter safety, principles of conservation and sportsmanship, ending in a final exam.
Deer hours and turkey hours differ: deer close one-half hour after sunset, turkeys at sunset.
