How this list was compiled: Written from the Delaware Code, Title 7, Chapter 5 (https://delcode.delaware.gov/title7/c005/sc01/index.html, sections 501, 502, 504, 506, 512, 513, 516, 517 and 518) and Chapter 7 (https://delcode.delaware.gov/title7/c007/sc01/index.html, sections 701, 704, 707 to 712, 714, 715, 718 to 720 and 722 to 724), as the State publishes them online; from 7 DE Admin. Code 3900, Wildlife, sections 1.0, 3.6, 4.7, 5.2 to 5.4 and 7.1 to 7.5 (https://regulations.delaware.gov/AdminCode/title7/3000/3900/3900.shtml); and from two pages of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control: Hunter Education (https://dnrec.delaware.gov/fish-wildlife/hunter-education/) and Hunter Education Courses (https://dnrec.delaware.gov/fish-wildlife/hunter-education/courses/). All were read on 2026-10-13; each question names its section or page. The course facts (the age of 10, the free live course, the field day) are the department's own; its Hunter Education Courses page is the published outline this page follows. The department publishes no number of questions and no pass mark for the course exam, so none is given here. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the text of the Delaware Code and regulations and the facts on the department's public pages; nothing is copied from a hunter education manual, a study guide, an online course, a chapter review or an examination.

How it works

Unofficial practice for Delaware's hunter education course: our own questions from Title 7 of the Delaware Code, the wildlife regulations and the Division of Fish and Wildlife's course pages, each with its section. Live firing is done with an instructor.

Rules that are Delaware's own

When deer may be taken with a firearm, hunters show 400 square inches of hunter orange on head, chest and back. While hunting, no firearm is fired within 100 yards of an occupied dwelling without the occupant's leave, or within 15 yards of a public road. A deer is registered within 24 hours. Turkey hunters of 13 or older first pass a turkey hunting course.

  • Residents under 13 hunt without a license beside a lawful hunter; ages 13 through 15 buy the junior license.
  • A repeating shotgun is plugged to hold three shells, magazine and chamber combined.

Questions and answers

Who needs a hunter safety course in Delaware?

Anyone born after January 1, 1967, resident or nonresident, before applying for a hunting license, under sections 501 and 506 of Title 7. A hunter education certificate from another state or a Canadian province is accepted.

How old do you have to be to take hunter safety in Delaware?

Students must be at least 10 years old to be certified, and a parent accompanies any student under 12. The live course is free and needs pre-registration.

Can you take the Delaware hunter safety course online?

Yes, through a vendor the state has approved, followed by a two-hour in-person field day with shotgun live firing. Delaware law requires at least 10 hours of instruction and live firing under a trained firearms instructor.

Can you hunt on Sunday in Delaware?

Yes, within the seasons the Department sets: on private land at the landowner's discretion and on public land the managing agency designates, under section 712 of Title 7.

Is this the official Delaware hunter education exam?

No. Nothing here is official or affiliated with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. The questions were written for this page from the Code and the regulations, never from the course exam.
