How this list was compiled: Written from eight public pages of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks at https://www.mdwfp.com, each opened on 2026-10-13: Hunter Education (https://www.mdwfp.com/enforcement-education/hunter-education), Hunting License Requirements (https://www.mdwfp.com/licenses-permits/hunting-license-requirements), General Hunting Rules & Regulations (https://www.mdwfp.com/wildlife-hunting/general-hunting-rules-regulations), White-Tailed Deer Regulations (https://www.mdwfp.com/enforcement-education/white-tailed-deer-regulations), Nuisance Species Regulations (https://www.mdwfp.com/wildlife-hunting/general-hunting-rules-regulations/nuisance-species-regulations), Migratory Bird Regulations (https://www.mdwfp.com/wildlife-hunting/general-hunting-rules-regulations/migratory-birds-regulations), White-Tailed Deer Game Check (https://www.mdwfp.com/wildlife-hunting/white-tailed-deer-game-check) and Wild Turkey Game Check (https://www.mdwfp.com/gamecheck/wild-turkey-game-check). The pages state the department's rules and cite the Mississippi Code where they rest on it (49-7-20 for hunter education, 49-7-5 for licenses). Each question names its page and heading. The course facts (the January 1, 1972 line, 10 hours, the age of 10, the written exam) are the department's own; its Hunter Education page is the published outline this page follows. The department publishes no number of questions and no pass mark for the written exam, so none is given here. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the rules and facts on the department's public pages; nothing is copied from a hunter education manual, a study guide, an online course, a chapter review or an examination.

How it works

An unofficial Mississippi hunter education practice test: our own questions from the rules the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks publishes, each with its page. Gun handling, first aid and survival are taught in the course, not asked here.

Rules that are Mississippi's own

In a firearms season for deer, hunters wear 500 square inches of solid fluorescent orange or pink, unless in a stand twelve feet up or a fully enclosed blind. A firearm on a public road or its right-of-way stays unloaded. Bait is illegal, and feeders stand 100 yards from a property line. A spring turkey goes into Game Check before 10 p.m.

  • Shooting hours for resident game run from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset; for migratory birds they stop at sunset.
  • At night the largest legal loads are .22 standard rimfire and No. 6 shot.
