What the core exam covers
The Code has commercial applicants pass a core examination and a category examination. It names four core areas: pesticide handling and safety, environmental considerations, symptoms of pesticide poisoning, and current laws and regulations. This NJ pesticide core practice test drills the last one.
What is left out
Manual subjects such as pests, equipment and calibration are not here. Federal label and worker protection rules are on the pesticide applicator practice test.
Length and pass mark
Rutgers gives 75% as the pass mark for the closed-book exams. Its registration site allows 1 hour 45 minutes for an exam and prints no question count, so a mock exam here is 50 questions, our number, marked at 75%.
- Three years for most application records, five for termiticide records, and 24 hours to put either in writing.
- October 31 ends the license year for operators, commercial applicators and businesses; a private license runs to October 31 of the fifth license year.
Questions and answers
Is this the real NJ pesticide applicator license test?
No. It is unofficial practice written for this site from N.J.A.C. 7:30. The real exams are approved by the Department of Environmental Protection and given through Rutgers, and none of their questions are here.
Is this an NJ pesticide core exam practice test?
For the law part of core, yes. Section 7:30-6.2 also puts handling and safety, environmental considerations and poisoning symptoms on the core exam, and those are studied from the Core manual, not from this page.
Is there an NJ pesticide 3B practice test or NJ 3B pesticide study guide here?
Only the Code's turf rules. Category 3B is turf, and its exam follows the category manual from Rutgers Cooperative Extension. The bank does ask the turf sign rules of 7:30-9.13: white signs, posted at the start, kept 72 hours.
Is this a New Jersey pesticide license study guide?
No. The exams are based on the New Jersey Pesticide Applicator Training manuals, which Rutgers lists for order online or through county Extension offices. This page checks the Code's rules after you have read them.
How do I register for the NJ pesticide applicator exam?
Through the Rutgers PACER site. On October 12, 2026 it listed in-person sessions only since September 2026, closed book, at $135 for core and category exams and $50 for the private exam. Core needs the basic training class first.
