Who takes the core exam
Commercial applicators pass a core examination and a category examination. A private applicator passes the core examination, adding category 7d for fumigants or category 11 for aerial work.
What this bank covers
By 355 IAC 4-1-2.1 the core examination covers subject matter common to most categories and addressed in 40 CFR Part 171. This bank is the Indiana law only. Federal label, safety and worker protection rules are on the pesticide applicator practice test.
Mock exam length
The rule prints no question count for the core examination, so a mock exam here is 40 questions, our number.
- Initial certification runs through December 31 of the fourth year after the exam year; a renewed one through the fifth.
- Restricted use application records and dealer sales records are both kept two years.
- The state chemist, at Purdue University, runs the program; cities and counties may not regulate pesticide use by ordinance.
Questions and answers
Is this the real Indiana pesticide applicator test?
No. It is unofficial practice written for this site from the Indiana Code and the state chemist's rule. The real examinations are closed book, developed by the state chemist, and none of their questions are here.
What score passes the Indiana core pesticide exam?
75 percent, the minimum passing score in 355 IAC 4-1-2.1 for examinations the state chemist administers. No examination may be attempted more than three times in any twelve month period.
Is there an Indiana private applicator practice test?
This bank serves it for the law. A private applicator passes the same core examination and pays a $20 fee under IC 15-16-5-54. The state chemist's office says private applicator permits are current for five years.
Where are Indiana pesticide exams taken?
The Office of Indiana State Chemist says exams are taken at testing centers or remotely proctored, that no paper exams follow training, and that every examinee must be 18 and show a government-issued photo ID.
How does an Indiana applicator keep certification?
A commercial applicator earns the category's continuing certification hours, 10 to 20 in most categories, or retakes the examinations. A private applicator attends three recertification programs in the five-year period, at most two in one year.
