The core exam
The department's 2026 Information Bulletin, read October 8, 2026, sets the Applicator License (core) exam: closed book, online, multiple choice. Exam mode copies its question count, time limit and pass count. The card shows that count as 69%; the bulletin prints it as 70%.
What is covered
The exam's general standards are listed in 333 CMR 10.04(1). This bank is standard (h), laws: the Massachusetts Pesticide Control Act and the 333 CMR rules in 128 questions, and FIFRA in 19.
What is left out
Labels, safety, pests, formulations, equipment and the environment, the other standards, are not here. Federal label and worker protection rules are on the pesticide applicator practice test.
- An applicator keeps application records three years; a school keeps its own pesticide record five.
- Turf signs go up before each application and stay at least 24 hours, no more than 72.
- Fail an exam twice and the wait is three months; three times, one year.
