How this list was compiled: Written from the Wildlife Code of Missouri in the Code of State Regulations, Title 3, Division 10: chapter 4 (rules 3 CSR 10-4.110, 4.135, 4.136, 4.137 and 4.141), chapter 5 (rules 5.205, 5.210 and 5.215) and chapter 7 (rules 7.405, 7.410, 7.431 and 7.455), each read in the Missouri Secretary of State's current edition, https://www.sos.mo.gov/cmsimages/adrules/csr/current/3csr/3c10-4.pdf, 3c10-5.pdf and 3c10-7.pdf, on 2026-10-09 (the pages are dated 7/31/26). Each question names its rule and links to the chapter file. The course facts in the topic "The course and the final" (the four-hour skills session, the 35-question final at 80 percent, the all-online course for age 16 and older with its 60-question final) are the Missouri Department of Conservation's own, read the same day on its Hunter Education page, https://mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/hunter-education, which is the published outline this page follows. The annual Fall Deer and Turkey booklet, which rule 7.431 incorporates by reference, was not read and nothing is asked from it. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the text of the Missouri Wildlife Code and the facts on the Department's public page; nothing is copied from a hunter education manual, an online course, a chapter review or an examination.

How it works

This unofficial Missouri hunter safety practice test is written from the Wildlife Code of Missouri, 3 CSR 10, and shows the rule after each answer. Law only: firearm handling, wildlife identification and first aid come from the course.

A Missouri hunter safety study guide in rules

In the firearms deer season hunters of any game wear a hunter orange cap or hat and a shirt, vest or coat. A hunter who takes a deer voids the permit at once by notching the month and date of harvest, then reports the deer through Telecheck by 10 p.m. that day.

  • Baiting: salt and scents are not bait, grain is, and an area stays baited for 10 days after the bait is completely removed.
  • Camouflage orange does not count as hunter orange, and the orange must be plainly visible from all sides.
