The course facts in the topic "The course and its test" (free courses, the six-hour minimum, no minimum age, tests taken without assistance, the subjects) are the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission's own, read the same day on its page Take a Hunter Education Course, https://www.ncwildlife.gov/outdoor-skills/take-hunter-education-course, which is the published outline this page follows. The commission publishes no number of questions and no pass mark for the test, so none is given here. The commission's rules in Title 15A of the Administrative Code and its yearly regulations digest were not read and nothing is asked from them. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the text of the North Carolina statutes and the facts on the commission's public page; nothing is copied from a hunter education manual, an online course, a chapter review or an examination.

How it works

Unofficial practice for the test in a North Carolina hunter safety course: our own questions from the General Statutes and the Wildlife Resources Commission's course page, each with its section. Firearm safety, wildlife identification, first aid and tree stand safety belong to the course.

Game is taken from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset. Anyone hunting deer in a deer firearms season wears hunter orange. Posted land takes written permission dated within the last 12 months, and every big game kill is reported to the commission.

What the course is

The commission's courses are free, run at least six hours and are given in all 100 counties by certified volunteers, hunter education specialists and wildlife officers. All of North America's states and provinces accept the certification.

  • Under 16: no license is needed, but a licensed adult of 18 or older stays within sight and hearing until the certificate is earned.
  • Sunday hunting with firearms stops between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and stays 500 yards from a place of worship.
  • Purple paint marks on trees or posts post land just as signs do.
