What the Virginia 7th grade math SOL practice test covers

Virginia's blueprint has three reporting categories, and the questions here keep their shares. Probability, Statistics, Patterns, Functions, and Algebra is about half of the test: probability, histograms, slope and y = mx, expressions, two-step equations and inequalities. Number, Number Sense, Computation, and Estimation is 25 to 30 percent: powers of ten, scientific notation, square roots, rational numbers and proportions. Measurement and Geometry is 20 to 25 percent: cylinders, surface area, similar figures, quadrilaterals and dilations.

How the answers are checked

Each answer names the Standard of Learning it practices, such as 7.PFA.3 for two-step equations, and was worked out a second time from the question's own numbers. Graphs and figures on the real test are described here in words.

  • Scientific notation, comparing rational numbers and square roots are tested without a calculator. Practice them by hand.

Questions and answers

Is there a Virginia SOL practice test for advanced 7th grade math?

The blueprint describes one grade 7 mathematics test. Online it is computer adaptive, so the questions adjust to how a student answers. Advanced is a score level: a scaled score of 500 on the 0 to 600 scale.

How many questions are on the 7th grade math SOL test?

The online adaptive test has 44 items that count and 5 field-test items that do not. The paper test has 48 that count, plus 5 field-test items.

What is a passing score on the 7th grade math SOL?

SOL results are scaled scores from 0 to 600, and 400 is the lowest score at the proficient level. A percent on this page is practice and is not a scaled score.

Can you use a calculator on the 7th grade math SOL?

On most items. Calculator-active items come with the Desmos Virginia Scientific calculator. On the online test, 3 to 5 number sense items and 1 to 3 algebra items are assessed without one.
