How this list was compiled: Written from Utah Code Title 46, Chapter 1, the Notaries Public Reform Act, as published by the Utah Legislature at https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title46/Chapter1/46-1.html, read 2026-09-26. Each question links to its section page in the form https://le.utah.gov/xcode/Title46/Chapter1/46-1-S12.html. The text used is the version in effect on 2026-09-26, including the amendments of S.B. 139 (Chapter 56, 2026 General Session) effective May 6, 2026, which made a physical journal mandatory for notaries commissioned on or after that date. Exam and fee facts come from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor: https://notary.utah.gov/qualifications-and-process/ and https://notary.utah.gov/faqs/; that Utah has no renewal provision is from https://notary.utah.gov/; all read 2026-09-26. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute text and the Lieutenant Governor's pages; nothing is copied from another practice test or from the state's study guide. Short quotations from the statute are marked.

The Utah notary exam is online and taken during the application
You take the test inside the Lieutenant Governor's online application: $95 in total ($55 to apply, $40 to test), and $40 for each retake within 30 days. Results come on payment. Then file a $5,000 bond and oath of office.
What changed on May 6, 2026
S.B. 139 made a journal compulsory for anyone commissioned from that date: a bound physical journal for in-person acts, kept 10 years. The Identity, journal and changes topic drills the new entries, such as the last four digits of the ID number.
Fee caps: $10 per signature for an acknowledgment or jurat, $10 per page certified, $10 per person for an oath, $25 for a remote act.
The seal is purple for in-person acts and black for remote ones, inside a border no larger than 1 by 2 1/2 inches.
Deadlines: 30 days to report a new name or address, 10 years to keep the journal, 10 days for a former remote notary's written certification.
Questions and answers
What score passes the Utah notary exam?
The Lieutenant Governor's pages do not publish a pass mark or question count, so this page uses neither. Exam mode draws a 25-question sample. A good score here shows you know the statute, not how the state scores its test.
Are these the real exam questions?
No. This site has never seen the state's test and is not affiliated with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. The questions come from the statute and the office's own pages, not its study guide. No commissioned Utah notary has reviewed the answers yet.
Can I renew a Utah notary commission?
No. Utah has no renewal: when a commission ends you file a new application under Utah Code 46-1-3, take the test again and file a new bond. You may not notarize in between, even for a day.
