How it works
This unofficial Utah esthetician practice test follows the State's bulletin for the Basic Esthetics Integrated Competency Assessment, the examination for a basic esthetics permit. It is not affiliated with the Utah Division of Professional Licensing or Prov, Inc.

Which Utah exam is yours
Since January 1, 2026 a basic esthetics permit is earned on one assessment that mixes hands-on tasks on a mannequin with multiple-choice blocks. Master esthetics candidates, and students finishing toward a legacy esthetics license, sit the NIC theory and practical exams the Division's exam page lists.
What this bank asks
The bulletin's skill lists for the facial, extractions, both waxes and the blood exposure procedure; rule R392-702, which the bulletin cites for sanitation; and the Act, though law and rule is 1 percent of the outline. Skin analysis and diseases and disorders, a quarter of the outline, rest on textbooks and are left out.
- Soft wax goes on the brow in the direction of hair growth, with the applicator held at 45 degrees.
- Gloves are worn during any type of extraction (R392-702-9).
- The assessment uses actual hard wax on the upper lip and a simulated soft wax on one eyebrow.
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Utah esthetician exam?
For the basic esthetics permit, the bulletin gives 48 multiple-choice questions, 8 of them unscored, in four blocks of 12 set around 108 hands-on tasks. The NIC Esthetics theory test for a legacy license has 110 questions in 90 minutes.
What is the passing score for the Utah basic esthetics exam?
The examiner's bulletin for Utah lists the Basic Esthetics Permit assessment at 170 minutes with a passing score of 70. That score covers tasks and questions together, so a timed round here, 48 questions in 48 minutes, gives a score only.
How many hours do you need to be an esthetician in Utah?
A basic esthetics permit takes 200 hours of school and a master esthetics license 1,200. A student who started an esthetics program by January 1, 2026 may still finish 600 hours for a legacy esthetics license (Utah Code 58-11a-302.11, 302.18 and 302.23).
Can I still get an esthetician license in Utah?
The old esthetics license is no longer issued, except as a legacy esthetics license to people already in a program or apprenticeship on January 1, 2026. Existing esthetics licenses renew as legacy licenses (Utah Code 58-11a-302.23 and 302.25).
Are these the real Utah esthetician exam questions?
No. They are our own, and each names the bulletin section, the rule or the Utah Code section behind its answer. None comes from the assessment or from an NIC examination.
