How it works
This unofficial Oklahoma esthetician practice test asks what the Board's rules say. It is not affiliated with the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering, the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) or its test administrator.

Where the outline meets Oklahoma's rules
The NIC bulletin of September 1, 2025 splits the theory examination between Scientific Concepts, 55 percent, and Skin Care and Services, 45 percent. Subchapter 7 of the Board's Chapter 10 speaks to the first on infection control and chemicals, and to the second on devices, peels, lashes and wax.
How the 64 questions divide
Twenty-two are on infection control and 10 on chemicals, products and makeup hygiene. Nineteen cover the scope of practice rule, esthetic devices, peels, lash services and wax. Thirteen are examination and license rules, the Board's practical supply list among them.
- Microblading, microneedling and permanent makeup count as puncturing the skin, beyond a facialist's license (OAC 175:10-7-29(a)).
- A new spatula for each dip into the wax pot, or the wax for one service in a single use cup (OAC 175:10-7-34(c)).
- Makeup pencils are sharpened before each use and the sharpener disinfected after each use (OAC 175:10-7-33).
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Oklahoma esthetician written exam?
Esthetics 2025, the NIC theory test, runs 110 questions in 90 minutes on the test company's page for the Board; 10 are unscored pilot questions. Rule 175:10-9-25 puts the minimum passing grade at 75 percent on each portion, written and practical.
What is on the Oklahoma esthetics practical exam?
The Board gives it and posts a supply list on its Esthetics exam page: drapes, cleansing cream, an extraction tool, tweezers, a mock wax product with strips, massage cream, a mask, and makeup from foundation to lip color.
Does Oklahoma have a state law test for estheticians?
Not for school graduates. The Board's Exams page lists its own State-specific safety and sanitation exams for lash specialists, the blowdry and makeup credentials and reciprocity applicants. The examination and license group on this page is extra.
Are these the real Oklahoma esthetician exam questions?
No. Each was written for this site from a section of OAC Title 175, Chapter 10, or from the Board's exam pages. Skin science fills much of the real theory test and is not asked: no Oklahoma rule states it. The Washington page covers it.
How many hours is esthetician school in Oklahoma?
The Board's rule prescribes a 600 clock hour curriculum for the Esthetician/Facialist course (OAC 175:10-3-39), and its Esthetics exam page asks for 600 hours of study or the equivalent number of credit hours.
