How it works
This unofficial Oklahoma boating license practice test asks state law only: every question comes from Title 63 of the Oklahoma Statutes, sections 4200 to 4234, and names its section. Navigation rules, lights and buoys have their own bank here. Read October 2026.

Fifty feet, 150 feet, 500 yards
Above ten miles an hour, stay 50 feet from any other vessel (section 4210). A no wake zone reaches 150 feet from every boat ramp, dock, pier and anchored or moored vessel, buoys or not (4210.4). A certified rider of 12 to 15 on a personal watercraft stays within 500 yards of a watching adult (4232). Towing a skier stops at sunset (4212).
Questions and answers
Who has to take the boat license test in Oklahoma?
Oklahoma issues no boating license. Section 4232 asks anyone under sixteen to pass a boating safety course or a proctored equivalency examination, and hold the certificate, before operating a motor over ten horsepower, a sailboat of sixteen feet or more, or a personal watercraft.
How many questions are on the Oklahoma boating safety exam, and what score passes?
Title 63 gives neither number, and the Department of Public Safety's boating education page gives none; it says the Highway Patrol offers a 6-hour classroom course free. The 25-question practice exam on this page is this site's own length and shows no pass line.
How old do you have to be to drive a boat in Oklahoma?
At sixteen no certificate is needed. From 12 to 15 the certificate is required and a competent adult of 18 or older rides aboard, placed to take immediate control; on a personal watercraft the adult watches from within 500 yards (section 4232).
When do children have to wear a life jacket on a boat in Oklahoma?
At 12 or younger, on any vessel under 26 feet that is under way; the operator must require it (section 4206). Everyone on a personal watercraft, water skis or a sailboard wears one, and a ski belt does not count.
Is this practice test Oklahoma's own exam?
No. This page is independent practice and not a government website; the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety and its Highway Patrol had no part in it. Each answer names its section of Title 63. The course itself also covers navigation and safe handling.
