How this list was compiled: Examination: the Manicuring exam page of the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering (https://oklahoma.gov/cosmo/exams/manicuring.html, last modified August 7, 2025) asks for 600 hours of study and a written and practical exam passed with a minimum of 75 percent, with the Board's own supply list for the practical; its Exams page (https://oklahoma.gov/cosmo/exams.html) names the provider of the NIC theory examination for Oklahoma. The examiner's page for the Board (https://provexam.com/test-information/oklahoma-state-board-of-cosmetology-barbering) lists Nail Technology 2025 at 110 questions, 10 of them unscored pilot questions, 90 minutes, passing score 75. Outline of the theory examination: the National Nail Technology Theory Examination bulletin of the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC), effective September 1, 2025 (https://prov-testing.github.io/nic_cib/nail_technology_national_theory_english_2025.html): eight domains, from infection control and safety practices (15 percent) to nail enhancement services (20 percent). Facts: Oklahoma Administrative Code Title 175, Chapter 10, as the Secretary of State's rules site gave each live section on the day of reading (https://rules.ok.gov/code?titleNum=175), and the Board's Manicuring exam page. Each question names its rule and links to Title 175 on the rules site or to the Board's page. Read 2026-10-16. Licence: Own work. Every question, wrong choice and explanation was written for this site from the public texts named. Nothing comes from a real examination, the sample questions in a bulletin, a practice product, a textbook or a prep course.

What the Oklahoma manicurist exam is

The Board's Manicuring exam page asks for a written and a practical exam. The written part is the NIC Nail Technology theory test; the Board posts its own supply list for the practical.

What the 55 questions ask

Twenty-two are on the manicuring station, nail files, drill bits, pedicure bowls and single use items; 21 on infection control, chemicals and products; 12 on training and examination rules, which the NIC outline does not test. Nail anatomy, disorders and enhancement steps are in no Oklahoma rule: the national manicure theory test here covers them.

  • Any nail file not made entirely of metal or glass is single use, like buffing blocks and orangewood sticks (OAC 175:10-7-30(c)).
  • Drill bits soaked in acetone are washed with a brush, soap and water and rinsed before the disinfectant (OAC 175:10-7-14(g)).
  • If a nail disease shows before artificial nails are applied, the licensee does not proceed (OAC 175:10-7-14(e)).

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the Oklahoma nail tech written exam?

Nail Technology 2025, the NIC theory test, has 110 questions in 90 minutes on the examiner's page for the Board; 10 are unscored pilot questions. OAC 175:10-9-25 sets a manicurist's minimum passing grade at 75 percent on each portion.

How many hours is nail tech school in Oklahoma?

The Board's rule prescribes a 600 clock hour Manicurist/Nail Technician curriculum (OAC 175:10-3-38), with 160 hours each for manicuring and pedicuring and for artificial nails. An apprentice course is 1200 hours (OAC 175:10-9-2).

What do you bring to the Oklahoma manicuring practical exam?

The Board's supply list names manicure implements, polish remover, a wet sanitizer, at least four towels, cuticle cream or oil, a manicure bowl and nail brush, red polish with base and top coat, odorless sculptured nail products, natural full well tips, and your own water.

Is there an Oklahoma state law test for nail technicians?

Not for school graduates. The Board's Exams page lists its own State-specific safety and sanitation exams for eyelash extension, blowdry, makeup and reciprocity applicants only, and the NIC outline has no law domain. The last group here is extra practice.
